This is a small hotel at the west end of Princes Street so really handy for the shops, bars and restaurants. The check in was easy and the staff were friendly and helpful, you even get guided to your room. Our room was spacious with good facilities and nice views of the streets below but well sound proofed. We spent one night in Rutland. We where totally overwhelmed by how huge it was. The atmosphere is lovely, nice furniture. And the kitchen was just amazing. As we had to get to the airport very early we were offered to get our breakfast directly to our bed which was great!

Suffice to say my wife and I had a wonderful two nights except for the noise of something on Sunday morning. Could have been a gym or air conditioning. Not overbearing but it was in the background, if i'd wanted to lay in I would not have been happy. We did not complain because everything else was so good.

We booked last minute to see the Christmas markets. We stayed at The Rutland and we were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in one of the apartments which had two double rooms. My eleven year old daughter loved her room. It was spacious, had its own TV and plenty of plug sockets for the many electrical gadgets that needed charging. It...

On arrival the staff on reception were very helpful. I had paid more for a castle view room, and the view was lovely. The room was very spacious, with a super king French bed, though a little tacky for my liking. Everything we needed, a bonus having a Nespresso machine and even GHD hair straighteners to save me bringing my...

We stayed here one night recently while visiting the Edinburgh Christmas market. The hotel itself is in a good location and within easy walking distance of the shops and sights etc. We had booked a junior suite, but having stayed in many different styles of hotel, our suite was really just a large bedroom and not a suite at all....

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
