Having stayed at many hotels in Edinburgh over several years I can honestly say that this is one of the best. That's why we keep coming back! Superb location at the bottom of Princes Street (but you won't hear any traffic noise). Rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean and beds are comfortable. Complimentary water, tea and coffee are provided and...

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Ross checked us in and was helpful in getting us a last minute reservation at a fantastic restaurant called The Kitchin in Leith. Room was large and clean and the hotel is in a great location for public transportation. We had a nice view of the castle from our room. Several nice pubs right...

We stayed for one night on 31/10. The apartment was very spacious, lovely high ceilings with original features, it was spotlessly clean and had everything you could possibly need. Hairdryer, straighteners, bathrobes, lovely toiletries, espresso machine, mini bar, tv's, stereo. The rooms were all beautifully decorated and I wished we were staying for a longer period of time. We opted...

Stayed at the Rutland serviced apartments, just round the corner from the hotel (17 Rutland Street. We had a two bed top-floor apartment (17/4) which was very well appointed, with good facilities (a washing machine would be icing on the cake) and large, comfortable rooms. A couple of housekeeping issues - oven tray was full of old, very smelly fat...

Excellent location, service and apartment! Couldn't fault this place - we will definitely be back. The apartments aren't cheap but they are worth paying a bit extra for. Right in the center of everything.

This is a real gem of a hotel ... unassuming from the outside so don't be fooled. If you fancy a treat go for the castle view room. You won't be disappointed. The Keyloe restaurant is absolutely fantastic - and residents get a 20 per cent discount so well worth booking a table. Fab wine list too. Breakfast is standout...

The only thing The Rutland has got going for it is the location. I'll be brief. For the price and rating on Tripadvisor I would have expected (i.e. they DID NOT have) the following: - Gym - Lift to all floors - Lobby (to relax, wait for taxi or accept visitors) - Decent breakfast (think rock-hard bacon that's been under...

Small, first-class hotel. We stayed in a room in the main building the first night, then one-bedroom suite for two nights. Both are excellent... very modern updates of traditional Edinburgh buildings. The amenities and furnishings are all first-class. The suite has a full ultra-modern European well-equipped kitchen. Espresso, coffee and tea available at all times in the room. The staff...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
