The room was large, comfortable and modern with lots of facilities to make the stay more comfortable (coffee machine, kettle, GHD straightners and a mini fridge). The bathroom was larger and the shower was lovely. My personal highlight was the Bluetooth surround sound speaker system integrated into the ceiling of both the bedroom and the bathroom. Having a shower with...

Great hotel, really spacious room - would have loved a bath in it though?! Excellent central location and very helpful staff who helped us with various things to organise ! Only thing to point out - strong smell of cooking in the hall ways ?!

Have been to Edinburgh many times and stayed in various hotels. This time we tried this hotel as it was convenient to the town centre Overall we enjoyed our stay, a few improvements could enhance it however.

Lovely location and a very stylish hotel. We booked the romance package and had a wonderful room with a fabulous view of the castle. Staff were very helpful, breakfast was wonderful and the ambience was just right. Would definitely stay again. We had dinner at the Kyloe which was also really good and would recommend visiting the Gin Distillery below...

Stayed for the weekend at the end of October 2015 for two nights First time in Edinburgh, and I think we were very fortunate to find this hotel. The room (no.4 I think) was nicely decorated, comfortable etc - Bluetooth connected music system was a nice touch, the room was nicely set out in general, though no Castle view for...

We chose the hotel because of the location. We wanted to be within short walking distance of George Street and Rose Street. The hotel is perfect for this. Of course it is also a great location for the royal mile/castle and princes street. As other reviews have mentioned The Huxley is the bar below the hotel where you have your...

You cannot beat the location if you want to explore the centre of Edinburgh, right next to the castle, at the end of the main high street, walking distance to train stations and lots of bars and restaurants. The Huxley bar which is part of the vote is a great place for drinks but I am going to focus on...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay at the Rutland. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate the constructive criticism you describe. Stayed for two nights. Ideal location for all tourist attractions. Really friendly welcome on arrival and the room was clean and cosy with high level of decoration. We had cocktails at the Huxley and enjoying the lively atmosphere on one evening and then had a beautifully cooked steak in their restaurant.. Breakfast is in the Huxley and I felt that...

First class from top to bottom. We had 2 nights B&B with a dinner in the Kyloe restaurant on the first night and it was wonderful, only surpassed by the quality of the rooms in the floors above. First class hotel in the west end of Edinburgh, easy check in and check out, A bit pricey considering all the other easy accessible hotels in the area, The Huxley bar was good for lunch and drinks and fairly good priced. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
