We changed our reservation with a five star, but impersonal hotel,to that of the Rutland, and we consider ourselves blessed for this choice, which seemed to be guided by a wise instinct or intuition. At first contact we were met with, not just politeness, but true and deep kindness, deriving from pure Scottish heart and soul,at the reception,in the bar-restaurant,everywhere.There are not any adequate words that...

We chose The Rutland for a weekend get-away-from-it-all break. We wanted a location in the centre of the city, but with some charm and style as neither of us love modern corporate-style hotels not matter how swanky. The Rutland ticked all our boxes and then some. We had Room 5, which is one of the two Castle View rooms- It...

Second stay here and the hotel and location are great. We've stayed in room 10 + 12 now and both were very funky and lovely to stay in. Kylie restaurant on 2nd floor has fantastic steak and so is a must do, and the breakfast in the bar on the ground floor are fantastic

A lovely boutique Hotel situated perfectly at the end of Princes Street just around the corner from the Castle and plenty of Restaurants. Our room was on the top floor overlooking Prices Street, we had a large room, a big bed and very nice bathroom. Be careful, the lift stopped on the floor below. Breakfast was probably the best breakfast...

Great design, very large comfortable room and bathroom. Easy access to Edinburgh and all it has to offer. Breakfast in the Huxley was very tasty, mouthwatering smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Would definitely stay on our return to Edinburgh.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
