From the moment we made one special request by email pre-arrival until we left, the staff at the Indigo couldn't do enough for us and totally delivered what was promised. In particular, Natalia's warm and efficient welcome made a big impression on us. A small but quirky and fresh Boutique hotel, the Indigo offers excellent, modern facilities in contemporary surroundings,...

We stayed 5 nights for tourism and Hogmanay and had a wonderful time, in part, due to a comfortable hotel with good service and food in an excellent location. Paying extra for a suite was a good decision proving space and comfort in a quite environment. The hotel, like many in Edinburgh, is built within several large houses making for...

A nice little hotel conveniently situated for the city centre. The rooms are clean and well maintained. Hotel has a bar and restaurant which I've not used on this occasion as there are many pubs and restaurants in the vicinity.

Lovely hotel very nice to stay in and a lovely handy location to say the least, highly recommend you give it a go as it is much better in location and look than I expected. Very nice breakfast and bar food at good prices in my view. Thinking of Edinburgh I would look at this hotel

Stayed here for Hogmanay. We arrived on the 31st and received a lovely welcome. Our room was really nice, lovely decor, really comfortable bed and clean. The shower was good except for mouldy grout in the corners. Lovely big towels, great toiletries. All the staff were great and we're welcoming and helpful. The hotel is really close to the old...

We stayed here as it is close to the Playhouse, walking distance. Check in was quick and easy, friendly staff. The room was decorated to a high standard and although small was very comfortable. We ordered breakfast in the room the following morning and that was the only problem we had, they only brought 1 breakfast despite us writing that...

We had stayed at a couple of Indigo hotels and when we were arranging a trip to Edinburgh with friends we decided to stay here. The location for travellers without a car is great. Our friends landed at EDI airport and took the tram straight to the door. As we were driving, i had called well in advance and reserved...

This was our first visit away as a family. The staff at Indigo took away a lot of the stress. The hotel were more than accommodating in providing a travel cot and a baby bath. The room we booked was at theback of the hotel so we didn't disturb other guests too much with our baby. The room was a...

We stayed at the York hotel Indigo recently, and chose this hotel because of our experience there. The room was ok - the bathroom could have been cleaner. The shower tray had a crack all the way across it and the bracket holding the screen in place was broken. Breakfast was nice, plates were cold though so it quickly went...

Dear Nektaruk, Thank you for your feedback and for staying with us. We realize you have many choices when it comes to lodging, and we sincerely appreciate your business with us. I am glad to read that the breakfast served is well to your liking. However, we are truly sorry if your stay was not a complete satisfactory due to...

Last tram stop right outside the hotel so easy to get to. Close to lots of shops and restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. They called before travel to ask if we needed anything, which was a nice touch. Nice big bed and walk in shower. Couple of small gripes; would like a coat rack as you walk in to...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
