Stayed there for one night on business. Stayed in a normal room which was hotter than the sun with A/C that didn't really make an impact. Good bathrooms and great showers. Comfortable bed but poor quality pillows and duvets. Breakfast very expensive and poor service meant no one came took an order for toast despite costing £27 just for the...

My family and I recently stayed at the Balmoral on a visit for our first trip to Scotland and some college visits. The hotel was perfect. From the terrific service provided by David, the chief concierge, starting well before we arrived, to being greeted at our train car by Neal, the porter, who took care of our bags, the service...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Balmoral for a little weekend getaway. Having lived in Edinburgh for a few years it was a special occasion to return back and being able to stay in this iconic place. From the arrival to departure the Balmoral and its wonderful staff created an atmosphere of great hospitality combined with a...

Best afternoon tea I have ever had and mostly because of the attention to detail paid to our dietary requirements. Pescatarian with no alcohol because we can only eat halal food. The chef had made us vegetarian haggis which was super cute. Also the chicken used in the sandwiches used was halal so for the first time in my life...

This review is based on the Balmoral bar, i cannot comment on the rooms as i haven't had the chance to stay the night (although i will one day when i can convince my other half). Have drank in here a few times, and although expensive (£15 a cocktail!) i still find myself returning as their drinks menu is good...

This is definitely the best located hotel in Edinburgh. We drove from Norfolk and found it easily, parked outside the front door and after leaving the car in the safe hands of the lovely door man, we had no need for it for the rest of the weekend. First impressions were great. The lobby is impressive and staff are charming....

A number of things made this hotel stand out and they were by far and large the people and the incredible service we experienced while there. Before travelling I had lots of help arranging things with the concierge and they really did a number of special things to make our daughter fell special. The location was also unbeatable. Only a...

A little stop off this aftenoon for a weekend cocktail in this lovely hotel. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The cocktail I ordered was delicious and very pretty and there was a great choice. Not for visitors on a budget though as they were quite pricey!

Stayed for 3 nights in cheaper room so no castle view, you see it all day anyway. The hotel is very grand and service well practiced. Room was a good size with a great bathroom, plenty of toiletries, bath robes etc . Our room was on level one and faced a road so there was traffic noise which took a...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
