This is a great place to stay in Edinburgh. The front desk was efficient and friendly. Our rooms were spacious, as were the bathrooms. Room service was punctual and the food was good. Our luggage was stuck in Heathrow and trickled in over the course of a few days. The bellman and concierge were very good about following up and...

We found a fantastic rate online for eight nights at the Balmoral right in the heart of Edinburgh within easy walking distance to all the historical and cultural attractions. While our room was small, it was always well maintained, and the marble bathroom was palatial with a porthole window overlooking the street below and the countryside beyond. Hadrian's restaurant provided...

The afternoon tea for two was purchased as a gift . On booking we were asked if it was a special occasion and I said it was our 33 wedding anniversary , with no expectations , I would not have mentioned it if I hadn't been asked . On arrival the lady said , in front of myself and my...

My husband and I started our vacation in Scotland with a two night stay at this hotel in Edinburgh and had a great hotel experience here. Room very nice, clean, comfortable and quiet. Staff mostly helpful. Enjoyed drinks in little bar in the evenings.

Hotel is an historic building and very lovely. Left the Old Course hotel and traveled to Edinburgh and choose this hotel on a recommendation from the Old Course staff. I am very disappointed with the hotel staff. Room was not serviced and staff did not seem to care. Room was large and well appointed.

Great hotel experience but be sure go reserve all dinner times and that you also book a table at the bar or you are out of luck and will not get any sympathy or attention. Location is terrific, rooms grand, concierge helpful.

Stayed over Easter - stunning hotel with excellent staff. Not cheap, but near everything. Overall a good experience. One funny thing - our waitress served me haddock for breakfast, and then appeared to ask me, in an eastern European accent "how was your hot dog" !

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
