The service, attention to detail and friendliness of all the staff was second to none. My only disappointment was the extremely greasy hot choice of breakfast. The cold collation was extensive and of the quality one would expect of this standard of hotel. The position of the hotel is superb for the main attractions of Edinburgh and easy to reach...

Initial impressions were good. Lovely building and interesting eats in the Palm Court. Becam a bit uneasy as we checked in and suspect the communication amongst staff and record keeping is not the best. We had booked a single room and a double room. We were 2 females and one male with the same surname. They assumed the double room...

Dear Guest Thank you for sharing your impressions following your recent stay at The Balmoral. This is a beautiful hotel with a wonderful staff! We had two rooms - one for my husband and I and one for our kids. The kids' room was very large and beautiful. Ours was smaller but very nice and had a beautiful view. The breakfast was fantastic! We had the best omelettes I had in a long time along...

Corner room with lovely views of Arthur's seat, nautical style windows and luxurious bed!!! Overnight stay with my Mum and it was lovely. Have stayed here before but first review! Food was delicious and Palm court was always great for cocktail o'clock😁 although the bar has been moved now so its quieter. All in all a great hotel if you...

We didn't stay here but just stopped into the bar for drinks. Yes, the drinks were expensive, but my goodness we had fun! Tiny bar snacks. Tiny table. All good! We were convinced that people thought we were just silly tourists, which was true. Good service. Good times. Enough said.

A good base to discover the city in style. Modern service and amenities with old worlde charm. If you need valet parking, I think that this is the only one (or one of the very few) in the city. If the weather is good, it's paradise. If it rains, then it's Scotland and part of wonderful package

I found the experience of the Balmoral rather disappointing and not in any way uplifting. The hotel interior has seen better days a few years ago and the guest rooms and some of the public areas such as the restaurants could certainly do with a new kiss of life. Service was good and friendly and the food at Number One was...

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
