Just booked our third trip to Edinburgh this summer, and The Balmoral. This is truly a special place, historical, in the center of town, But what really makes this place special is the staff, and especially the doorman and concierge team. Our favorite rooms are the junior suites, very spacious. Don't forget to try their Whiskey bar, we learned so...

This is a great hotel in a great location in Edinburgh. It manages to combine both a quirky charm with a very contemporary service. The staff is excellent and they make you feel personally welcomed in what is, in fact, a large hotel.

Wonderful hotel, in a prime location. We were going on a Royal Scotsman train trip, so The Balmoral was the perfect compliment to our journey. The staff, the food, and the quality of service were all excellent.

We traveled to Edinburgh recently for a wedding and decided to stay at the Balmoral and we are all so glad we did. The location is perfect with taxi stand right outside the front door. Staff was fantastic even going so far as to repair my granddaughter's stroller when a wheel fell off the night before we had to get...

This is a wonderful place with helpful, kind staff members. We arrived very early from a cruise and the room was not yet ready, so we were allowed to freshen up and relax in the beautiful spa. The bathroom and especially the tub was luxurious with piping hot water. The bed was very comfortable. There was a wedding taking place...

We had a family pre graduation celebration at the Balmoral the evening before my daughter's graduation ceremony at the Usher Hall. She had just completed six years of study at Edinburgh University, and we are immensely proud of her. On hearing why we were at the Balmoral, the bar staff insisted on presenting my daughter with a complimentary cocktail -...

This is by far the nicest hotel in the city. People are fantastic and a very high level is maintained. A must! Located in a key location you can visit the castle or the Apple Store across the road without problems. Cabs are at the ready and the concierge has not only great suggestions for dining, they also returned my...

The location is amazing and the public space takes your breath away. The room I had was on the top floor was superb with great views and fascinating use of space. Service was all very good as was the food. The bars, as you'd expect in the Capitol of Scotland have a superb range of Single Malt Whisky.

Always wanted to stay there; visit only marred by late room cleaning/makeup and fact that no one was at the door the door to greet us and help with bags at 11:30 a.m.! Otherwise, concierge was quite helpful and loved the rooms.

We stayed here for 2 nights in late June. Very grand hotel in the heart of Edinburgh, close to old city, museums, and shopping. The staff at Balmoral is excellent, and very personable. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite Castle View, and I was disappointed to find that the view is from quite a distance, not even photograph worthy....

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
