Beautiful spacious room, spotlessly clean. We had a delicious breakfast with plenty to eat. We walked from our hotel to Edinburgh Castle, around a 20 minute walk. Can't fault our stay in Royal Ettrick, we will be back !

Firstly, this place failed in that - apart from the ubiquitous and unappetising school dinner 'macaroni and cheese' on the bar menu - there are no vegetarian choices on the main menu. If you enquire, you will be grunted at and then told the 'chef' MIGHT be able to do you a risotto (no description of type) or veggie burger....

Excellent small hotel on western outskirts of Edinburgh. Parking on site, close to bus routes and just 20 mins from Waverley Station. Very good breakfast, set us up for the day. Second time staying here, would certainly have no problem coming back again. Exec bedroom has plenty of room, nice double couch, very tall ceilings and spacious bathroom.

Got to the hotel only to realise that I'd booked the wrong night. Despite expecting to be turned away, the Duty Manager at the time was extremely helpful in finding us a room. The room itself was absolutely lovely and I would recommend to anyone!

Rather difficult to find at night as 3 bus drivers didn't know where it was. Never mind, a warm and friendly reception. Fine old building certainly and more might be made of its history? Bedroom was very small and not good for a claustrophobe. The toilet was a masserator type and went on masserating when I was in the shower...

Just the job for a long weekend in Edinburgh, comfy hotel not that far from the city centre, so met our needs perfectly, would certainly recommend, easy to get about town and short walks to main areas shops etc.

Two of us took 3 kids and popped in for a drink after being at a birthday party in town late October. I have very good memories of the Ettrick for being a child friendly place, with a lovely lady owner who used to make a great fuss particularly at Xmas. Also we would have end of term lunches there...
