We bought a voucher for this venue to accomodate a visit to Edinburgh Playhouse to watch We Will Rock You. We were impressed that the accomodation was straight across the road from the play house and a big shopping centre, it also has parking right outside. The staff were really friendly and could'nt do enough to make our stay perfect....

Unfortunately we had a table near the door so everytime the door open it was freezing. The bar itself is lovely, something a bit different and reasonabley priced. We ordered from the wa wa menu and to be honest they should stick to scottish type pub grub as the attept at oriental food was poor. I woudl go back for...

I bought a voucher for this place on a website that got you dinner, bed and breakfast and a free bottle of fizzy wine with your dinner. It was only £60 and seemed a very good deal. I called to make a booking in early December for the 7th Jan as i was going to see We will Rock you...

Our stay had a lot of money off through a voucher scheme, we loved the Fiddlers Elbow and the food was great. The staff are very friendly also. The room was fantastic and very clean and also had a small kitchen area with fridge and microwave. The only disappointment and one to bear in mind if you are a light...

Excellent hotel in super location, three minutes walk from Princess Street and accros the road from the Omni Centre. My husband and I stayed for one night in January and loved every minute of it, in fact we are going to book to go back as soon as we can. The room was spotlessly clean with a large comfortable bed...

Great city centre location, opposite Edinburgh Playhouse with NCP Carpark & St James shopping centre a 2 minute walk away. On first arrival it seemed very laid back and we weren't sure what to expect. However the room(No 4) in the attic was superbly furnished, very clean & comfortable with en suite shower room. The small kitchen was an added...

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
