My husband and I recently stayed at Gerald's place. It is located in the "New City" of Edinburgh. (The New City is a lovely Georgian area and a very short walk to the Old Town area). We have visited Edinburgh many times and this location is now our absolute favourite! Gerald was an amazing host and felt like family by...

Our party of five ladies from the US enjoyed a lovely stay at Gerald's Place in June. Our host was most welcoming and helpful--arranging for taxis, helping with luggage, etc. The location is near-perfect--a short walk from Prince's Street, Royal Mile, the Castle, and one could walk from the train station if you didn't have too much luggage! Our time...

We spent 3 fantastic nights at Gerald's delightful and intimate B&B in a great part of the New Town area of the city center of Edinburgh. Gerald is a warm and gregarious host who shows a genuine interest in his guests and wants to make sure they enjoy everything about Edinburgh with suggestions and insights for activities and places to...

The beds -- very comfortable. The in-room tea set-up (complete with fresh milk pitcher) -- lovely. The wee dram of whiskey waiting for us in a pitcher -- delightful. The bottle of wine in the fridge -- beyond hospitality. However, the best and most surprising thing about Gerald's Place is ... well ... Gerald! Only drawback is that you may...

As always, a wonderful stay in Gerald's Place. Gerald is a generous and entertaining host, the beds are exceptionally comfortable, and the delicious breakfasts are a fantastic start to a day's sight-seeing in Edinburgh. The B&B is right next to the centre of Edinburgh, making it an ideal location from which to explore the Fringe festival, and Gerald helped us...

Return to the gentility of the Scottish Enlightenment with 21st Century comforts, Our most congenial host Gerald offered a sense of refinement and good taste. Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
