Beautiful hotel and stunning views. When we arrived at the hotel the receptionist was very polite and informed us that they were after upgrading us to a superior double room with a stunning view of the castle outside our bedroom window. It was my birthday and it was me and my boyfriends first holiday together so it was a special...

Having arrived in Edinburgh on the early morning sleeper (7am), we were able to book our luggage in early at the hotel, so we wouldn't have to drag it around when touring town (the friendly staff even offered us a room until our room was ready), but we were itching to get out and start exploring! We stayed in one...

Ridiculously noisy in the Grassmarket at the weekend. Noise continued til after 4am. Also had a £10 redemption as part of our 'deal' but every time we asked about using it, it was 'not valid'! But staff were very helpful and friendly.

I’ve stayed here before for work and being impressed with the hotel decided to treat my husband with a short break to celebrate his milestone birthday. The hotel and Edinburgh did not disappoint we had a great stay. When the reception staff heard about my husband’s 'big' birthday we returned from our explorations to find personalised birthday wishes along with...

Couldn't of picked a better place to stay in Edinburgh. Location was fantastic, pubs and restaurants literally on your doorstep. 5 minute walk to the Castle as well as beautiful Castle views day and night. Swimming Pool and Sauna was an added bonus. Didn't have breakfast in hotel but I'd recommend Zaza's 2 doors down for plenty of breakfast options....

Hotel in a fabulous location on Grassmarket which has a great atmosphere and character. Walking distance to the Royal Mile, Castle and Holyrood. Great spacious room twin room (double bed each). We opted not to pay the tariff to have view of castle from the room as we were not anticipated to spend much time in the room (which was...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
