The welcome at this edinburgh new town b& b is second to none. If you have problems with stairs then this may not be for you. But if you like superb breakfasts, cooked to order, great art in your room , good books to choose form during the evening or, best of all, people who are enthusiastic about the city...

Steven thank you for your review and I'm glad you enjoyed Edinburgh again. We are very lucky to have a city which is manageable on foot and with such variety of people and architecture. Naomi

My boyfriend and I stayed in the room overlooking the gardens. The house is picturesque, decorated with beautiful art and warm Scottish charm. It's located on a quiet street near Stockbridge, on the river Leith which leads to the botanical gardens and the gallery of modern art. Walking distance from Princes street and the old town. Highly recommend, a perfect...

I have stayed twice (September 2011 and February 2013) at 7 Gloucester Place and, on both occasions, a business visit to Edinburgh was turned into something special. Beautiful, 200 year old house, on a cobbled street in a central but extremely quiet part of the city (only an owl could be heard at night from the recommended south-facing, comfortable and...

Naomi's "double upper' in New Town is in a perfect location, about ten minutes walk from Princes Street, and recognizable as a background for Alexander McCall Smith's Scotland novels. (We were lucky enough to get a quick walking tour of the fabled Moray Place from our hostess--thanks, Naomi). The rooms are light and pleasantly furnished, the beds comfortable, and the hot...

Well located a bit downhill from Princes Street. Naomi Jennings and her husband are very good hosts. We had the delightful big room at top of house (many stairs!). Would certainly stay there again.

This was recommended in the Guardian. Very much a family house. Elegant central and quiet. An intimate and friendly atmosphere. Not cheap but good value

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
