Standards are what you would expect from a Novotel hotel. The room was very clean. A nice touch on having a bluetooth speaker and Nespresso coffee machine. The breakfast was excellent with a good selection of food. The toaster was next to useless but nothing to make an issue out of. The breakfast staff were very good and remembered our...

While the room decor was quite simple (they are in the middle of a refurbishment), it was spotless and the view was stunning! The main reception area is lovely. It has a modern eclectic cosy feel with a Scottish touch that isn't your typical "twee". The food was excellent, as were the drinks (although if you order a long vodka...

My daughter visited Scotland for the first time and spent 4 nights at the Novotel. It was right in the center of town surrounded by everything we wanted to visit within walking distance. Our room had a stunning view to Edinburgh castle, the staff was very helpful and courteous, and the food was excellent

Stayed for 1 night and was fortunate to stay in a refurbished room. Large room with everything you need. Plenty of hanging space and drawers. Walk in shower and separate toilet only. Check in speedy and effecient. Had a wonderful nights sleep. Lovely staff particularly the breakfast crew especially when a few guests have no manners at all. Would definitely...

We were here for 5 days and were pleased with the location within walking distance of the sights of Edinburgh city etc. The breakfast was great; fresh, plenty of choice of hot and cold food and drinks. I particularly enjoyed the exotic fruit salad. Good service in the restaurant and the one night we had dinner in the hotel we...

Rooms were very basic with a weird bathroom that was a capsule right by the bed and separate toilet. Bed was ok comfort wise but room felt tired. Biggest gripe was that the water tasted of sulphur and so could not be drunk. I had to head out at 10pm to the local shop to buy some bottled water. I'm...

Cons: Room layout in both the superior rooms and executive rooms gives very little hanging space. Toilet and bath are separate which is good but the toilet needs a hand basin and the shower and bath are very snug with a step up to the shower. We experienced a lot of noise on our first day due to work, fire...

Seemless naturally courteous and friendly staff from start till finish. Hotel was modern, immaculately clean, warm and had a relaxing and natural atmosphere that was perfect for feeling at ease. Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
