We stayed here last weekend for a birthday celebration which was held near the University. It was handy for the party, with a ten minute walk on the Saturday evening, and handy for a walk into Grassmarket for a meal on the Friday. On the Saturday we took the excellent advice of reception and travelled to visit the Britannia at...

I stayed at this hotel for a conference. The hotel is very clean with great rooms and fantastic staff. I had an issue at this hotel which they could have ignored but true to their word they pursued this issue after I left and managed to resolve the issue for me. I was very impressed with this level of customer...

This hotel, like all Novotels I have visited, is a smart modern hotel but our recent stay in Edinburgh was marred by poor customer service at the Edinburgh Central. The hotel was overbooked and we were relocated to the Ibis hotel for our first night. Our impression was that this was not an uncommon situation and sadly the staff's attitude...

Stayed over a bank holiday weekend so the hotel was full and extremely overpriced. Edinburgh seems to have a shortage of hotel rooms, particularly at busy periods, so mediocre hotels such as this can get away with charging ludicrous prices. I have paid less for far better, higher rated hotels elsewhere in the UK and Europe. The room was clean...

I am sorry that on this occasion you were disappointed with your stay in August last year. It will be difficult for us to investigate the matter as it was so long ago, I treat all feedback with the utmost seriousness and would like to let you know that the service you received was not the standard of service that...

I thoroughly enjoyed my overnight stay. Lovely modern hotel with bright spacious room. The bathroom was modern and well lit but the bath was a challenge to keep full as the plug was not willing to fully stay in the down position. Good selection of toiletries. Mini fridge had free water and milk was kept there too. Check in was...

One night stay here on business.. Average Novotel, they do everything well and for the budget expected.. Good room, good breakfast, good location.. Nothing more to say really... Except that there's a 200 character minimum so I need to think of something else to write in this space here :-) Nice hotel..

I stay here a couple of times a month on business and thought it only fair I gave the hotel a review. In summary I have never had a 'bad' stay here....the customer service is excellent, all the staff friendly, the food choice and quality is excellent, and the location can't be faulted. The gym is a little small, as...

Last minute booking for work, flew to Edinburgh and got a cab from the airport as it was quite late... £20! Arrived tiered and weary at the hotel, speedy check in, he could see I wasn't in the mood for polite chit chat. My room was lovely executive room which I wasn't expecting. Reasonable sized with a large queen size...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
