If you like your morning cup of tea, don't stay here. Yes, a kettle is provided with a short lead but no power socket apart from one at waist height so to boil a kettle you have to HOLD it until boiling - Health and Safety out the window! Apparently it's because it's a 'Listed' building that they can't put...

I only stayed here one night, arriving late on the train and leaving early for the airport. For that purpose it was pretty expensive, but I was willing to pay to be a block away from both the train station and the express bus to the airport! The room was small but really nicely appointed. In my somewhat sleep-deprived state...

Its impossible to find any flaw with this Hotel. We stayed here between April 21-23,2017 in A room with a view. First things first - not even 100 metres from Waverly station. The Airport link bus no 100 stops literally right in front of the hotel. Princes street gardens is next door, the Royal Mile is 5 minute walk, the...

The hotel is ideally located between the old and the new town, just in front of the main train station and across the street from the bus station to and from the airport. The rooms are wide and all the hotel was recently refurbished. The bathroom was comfortable and big. Mattresses and pillows were very comfortable and the room was...

Check-in staff were extremely friendly, though I think a 3 pm check-in is a little late -- however they will keep your bags for you if you want to go and explore. Rooms are very clean with lots of hot water in the bath room however furnishings are minimal -- no bedside table, no drawers etc. Tea and Coffee are...

Pretty good for a midweek works two night stopover. PRO's Main benefit is location. Very handy for Waverley Station and perfectly situated for most of Edinburgh's attractions. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Rooms are clean and a little small and a little basic. Soundproofing was pretty good. Continental breakfast only but perfectly adequate. Wi-Fi worked Ok for me. Left luggage...

Brilliant location,a few minutes walk from the main railway station. Clean, had corner room with great view of Waverley station. Probably one of the the least furnished rooms I've ever stayed in That takes minimalism to extremes and as result is soulless with not even a bedside table to put the telly changer on. No drawers anywhere to store any...

Great location next to Edinburgh's Waverly Station and a couple of minutes from Princes Street and the castle. We were welcomed at reception by very polite staff and arrangements and directions to the room were given. The place is a bit of a rabbit warren so listen to directions carefully! The room was small and functional.. the bed was very...

I needed a centrally-located and low-cost hotel for a mid-week stop-over in Edinburgh and this place was ideal. Location really is perfect - about 100 yards from Waverley train station, and from where you can either head south straight into the old town, or take a 5 minute walk north and onto Princes street where you will find all the...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
