Hostel in a good location but didnt have good access to the rooms (a lot of stairs, no elevator). The rooms are really small, not even a mirror inside. The cleaning was not good. Hair in the sheets. Corridors with dust! The only thing good was the kitchen!

Offhand , unhelpful check in staff, we arrived late at night and they would not even show us to our room in an old rabbit warren of a building. building felt unsafe , was grubby , noisy . paid for two nights but left after one . Not recommended.

I spent two nights in a single room during the festival. I really wasn't expecting much, as it is a hostel, but I left extremely disappointed, frustrated and tired. First, I could not find the reception. I followed google maps to the hostel, and there was a sign on the door of that building that said Euro Hostel, but no...

During the festival, accommodation is at a premium. Edinburgh hostel might seem expensive, but it is fair value compared with other options. The greatest plus point is location - only a few steps from the centre of Edinburgh, and hopeful comedians thrusting leaflets into your hand during the fringe. This is also the greatest disadvantage, because the rooms facing out...

The location is very central in the old town. The building has no wifi reception apart from at reception which is very inconvenient as my room was two massive flights of stairs up. The rooms are very noisy in the morning as they are next door a pub's delivery entrance on one side. On the other side they're across from...

Stayed in Euro Hostel for a long weekend at Edinburgh Fringe. Booked fairly late, so there wasn't much choice. It was the cheapest available, but at £80 a night I don't think it was that cheap - especially when compared to other hostels. The room was in a large student apartment, with shared bathrooms and kitchen. Both were clean and...

Stayed in a single room at the hostel on the penultimate weekend of the fringe. Its in a great position on Colgate which is in walking distance to most of the shows / events. I got a good price off the internet so was not expecting the Ritz. Check in was quick and painless and I was on the fourth...

Visiting Edinburgh during the summer this is my favourite place to stay. It's in a good location on Cowgate and the rooms are nice. It's the dorms for the University of Edinburgh during the rest of the year, so it's pretty basic accommodation, but it's also pretty cheap. So it's good value for money.

Location is great, about 5 minutes walk to the Royal mile and room was perfectly clean and upto standard. Would recommend if staying for a few nights on a budget and obviously not expecting hotel standards of rooms. Obviously can hear noise from the street due to location but it didn't really bother me that much. You have to pay...

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighbourhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighbourhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
