I just want to say after reading all the reviews that this place is no where near as bad as people make out. I was greated by the legend Danish man who was very helpful. The stairs are a great workout to the top floor, but the carpet and staircase was magnificent to look at. The rooms were nice but...

Pros: Breakfast is ok, service is perfect, location is good and close to the subway, and room was quiet. Cons: Outdated, dirty, hot water didn't work, room is not comfortable (i.e. nowhere to put the towels, mattress quality), and in general it looks filthy, so you don't want to touch anything.

I really dont think this hotel deserves all those bad reviews it has. We did not know what to expect as silly me booked the hotel before checking the reviews (although I never trust reviews 100%, prefer to make my own mistakes :)). The hotel is old, rough around the edges and does need a makeover, but gosh its full...

I stayed here for 2 nights and I did love my room- it was very grand, I did however feel I was staying in the hotel on American horror story! It was not super clean, but also not dirty, staff were polite enough, the hotel does need a serious update however for 2 nights it was cheap and cheerful- It...

I booked this hotel because of the location and the big room that it has on the picture, Well the room we stayed was not like the one we saw at all. Though it was ok, warm and convenient. The carpet was stained, but we were going only for a night sleep. The room overall was not so clean but...

Frayed at the edges, last decorated in the 20th century, but great value, polite staff and huge rooms, so who cares? Quite well located as well in the west end near Haymarket station. Would be perfect for international rugby.

Bathroom was like an icebox, dust all down back of radiators, disgusting. Wallpaper falling off walls, paint falling of the ceilings. Had to walk 49 steps up and down to my room. No lifts, ironing board was so small could only iron socks. Rust round the bath handles, just the pits.

First, the good. Location-wise, this hotel is a great location, opposite a Hilton Hotel. Go there instead. You would think that a hotel called the Ritz would be, at least Ritzy. It was more pitsy. The pictures were very misleading, decoration was outdated and vile. My parents room contained a brown stain on the floor roughly the size and shape...

Honestly the place is vile. Online pictures were deceiving and I was left massively disappointed. I expected to turn up to a huge room with a vintage quirky USP the hotel try to pull off. But there's that and then there's this. A vile outdated shambles. We were thrown in a box room, barely any room for us to move...

We've been 2 days, and we must you recommend that you shouldn't go here because it's a very dirty hotel, the room had a lot of hairs on the floor, also had a lot of dust for all room. Inside of room we had a exit emergency gate! We had never seen before in a hotel room! The bathroom had...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
