Honestly, I never write reviews - but I would like to thank Aileen for the most wonderful break! I stayed during the last weekend of the Fringe Festival, and my stay at the Victorian Townhouse was a big part of why my trip was so incredible! Aileen is amazing - so welcoming and accommodating and the rooms are spacious, comfortable...

I chose The Victorian Town House from the trip adviser reviews and believe me, we were not disappointed ! Our first visit to Edinburgh and I'm sure it's not going to be our last. Situated very close to the Haymarket station with access to trams trains and taxis the Victorian Town House is only 5 mins easy walking. Upon our...

This is our third visit to The Victorian House. It feels like home from home. Aileen makes us so welcome. The usual box of chocolates and flask of whisky greets us. The room is spacious, comfortable and interestingly decorated with African artefacts. Big comfy bed. At breakfast we're introduced to other guests for a good natter. Food is efficiently served...

Good location in West End. Close to restaurants and transportation. Wonderful personable staff, more like friends who went out of their way for us. They packed us a tasty lunch for the road. Very knowledgeable about things to do, good restaurants and transportation in Edinburgh. Aileen kept in touch via email with directions and other pertinent info. prior to arrival....

Even though our grandmother was born in Glasgow, my sister and I wanted to stay in Edinburgh because of all its attractions (Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood House, Arthur's Seat, etc.,) and having read great reviews about the Victorian Town House, we decided to use it as our "home base". Aileen Reeves, the proprietress, welcomed us with open arms. We felt like...

My sister and I had the absolute pleasure of staying the The Victorian Town House for 5 nights in July 2016. Aileen is fabulous! I know I have made a new friend for life. She is the best B&B hostess EVER. Our rooms were spotless, comfy beds, plenty of towels, great tv, and OMG, the breakfasts were so delicious. There...

I booked this bed and breakfast on the advice of others on trip advisor and I'm very glad I did. Wonderful spacious room with all the amenities. The breakfasts were delicious and were substantial enough to keep you going until dinner. But the best part of the B and B was the owner, Aileen. She cares about her guests and...

A large room with a sofa, 2 very comfortable beds and fabulous breakfasts. The house is within walking distance of Princes St. and the Castle etc. Best of all was our host Aileen who could not have been more welcoming and friendly. She gave us helpful tips and advice to make the best of our time in Edinburgh and even...

My fourth trip to Edinburgh and my fourth lodging location; two other lovely B&Bs and the 5 star Balmoral Hotel...but I'll be coming back here. I could write a book about how wonderful this place is. It all begins with Aileen - friendly, engaging and just a downright sweetheart. We were a golfing foursome. Our two rooms were immaculate, mine...

I can't say enough wonderful things about this property. First, Aileen, the owner, is outstanding. Friendly, outgoing and helpful to start. Plus, once you are there she doesn't bother you unless you need her. Next, the room (we stayed in colonial) is very nice and well appointed. Plus you can come and go in privacy through a separate door to...

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
