Reception fine - it is a boutique hotel so no grand entrance - just rather steep (and broken) external steps. We had the Castle Room (suite) which was superb with all the facilities required. The one exception according to my wife was the totally inadequate shelving in the bathroom - virtually non existent. Superb shower though! Reading these reviews now there is mention of a bar - never found it - no mention of it. Was it through the kitchen? Parking was a nightmare! On both days Friday and Saturday but eventually found on street paid for parking which was not expensive - just be prepared to circle indefinitely if you check in during the afternoon. All in all a nice boutique hotel - a bit quirky - very close to the Old Course which is presumably why it can charge what it does. I would expect a bit more personal service for this price elsewhere in Scotland.

Hotel's Favourite
We loved this hotel and everything about it! We were greeted by Raphael, who was extremely helpful and friendly; he immediately made us feel welcome. Our room was spacious, beautifully furnished and very well appointed. We had drinks in the bar downstairs before heading out to a restaurant (recommended by Raphael) for dinner. Although our room faced the main street it was very quiet and we slept well in the comfortable bed. Breakfast was good and, again, the staff were lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Kinnettles committed by voice and by email to refund me for 50% of the rate for the last day if we checked out early. We did check out 1 day early and I’m still calling, emailing and leaving messages trying to get my UKP1,014.28 refund. Not seen the money (now 8 weeks overdue), no-one will answer my calls, emails and messages.

Response from Klaudia Budzinska, General Manager at Kinnettles Hotel
Responded 2 days ago
Dear Roger S, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at our hotel. We value the opinions of our guests and take every review seriously. We understand that you had a concern regarding a refund request for a non-refundable rate. We sincerely apologize for any confusion or inconvenience you may have experienced. Non-refundable rates are a cost-effective option for our guests who are certain about their travel plans, but they come with a strict cancellation policy, as you mentioned. Our cancellation policy for non-refundable rates is in place to provide our guests with lower rates in exchange for their commitment to their reservation dates. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds or changes to these reservations, as stated in the terms and conditions at the time of booking. We understand that travel plans can change unexpectedly, and we recommend considering our flexible rate options for future stays. Our flexible rates allow for greater flexibility when it comes to cancellations and changes to your reservation, providing peace of mind for your travel plans. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced and appreciate your understanding of our policies. We hope you will consider staying with us again in the future, and we will do our best to provide you with an excellent experience. Thank you for choosing Kinnettles, Sincerely, Klaudia

The good news is that the location is excellent, and if you can get a space there is a free car park next door. The room was very comfortable, despite the puzzling lack of what we Yanks call “wash cloths” in the bathroom. A lack of bathroom counter space seems universal in Scotland. The bad news is that the entire staff we saw in two days consisted of very young people who were not very friendly or knowledgeable about the hotel or the local shops and pubs. They have a “spa,” and charge extra for its presence, but I’m not sure how many travelers want a steam or hot tub indoors with strangers post- COVID, and on a trip to St. Andrews. Services, like a massage, carry an added charge. The breakfast buffet was all self-serve, and was passable. The bar was closed for renovations.

Response from Klaudia Budzińska, Owner at Kinnettles Hotel
Responded 5 days ago
Dear MalefromOhio, thank you for staying with us and taking the time to leave feedback. I apologize that you did not find our staff to be friendly, I believe this has not been reported to management during your visit. Unfortunately, "wash cloths" are not a common practice in Scotland and most hotels avoid it due to hygienic reasons. Spa facilities are complimentary for all our guests and this is exclusive at all times (1 hour private slots available), guests can book this as many times as they wish during their stay. I am a bit confused as our bar is open for residents at all times and has always been. I wish this was mentioned during your stay with us, as there is very little we can do now. Kind regards, Klaudia

Our room was much better than expected, including plenty of space. Well presented. Their staff very helpful in settling us in. The location was perfect if you want close to the golf course. We would definitely come here when we return in a couple of years.

Fantastic stay at a beautiful hotel. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the rooms were superb, probably the largest I have stayed in! We had exclusive booking of the spa for 1hr which was fantastic, really clean and new. Breakfast was great. Lovely experience overall, we will be back!

Lovely hotel with brilliant staff who really go out of their way to make your stay perfect. Ideal location, right in the heart of town. Spa is great and would certainly recommend a treatment. We stayed in the Balcomie suite and it was perfect. Can imagine it gets hot in the summer but there was a floor fan provided. Would 100% stay here again.

The hotel looks amazing from the photos. But the execution is very messy. Maybe it’s covid, but there are some elements that leave something to be desired. My room was in the annex and it was quite dark with only one window. Lugging suitcases up narrow staircase was also not fun. The first night was okay, no issues. The problem was the second night: first hot water heater broke. It was not their fault but no hot shower in Scotland in October is not fun. Only the barest apology for that. Afterwards the breakfast was a mess: someone did not show up and half the items for breakfast were missing (not prepared) or server inedible (bread and croissants were RAW inside). Again nothing, no gesture of good will from anyone in the hotel. Finally getting an invoice from the hotel was a pain. It took a couple of weeks and six separate emails for them to finally send it. With so many issues with the service and personal approach, there are other options in the area for that price

Best location close to the shops and St.Andrews we had a suite which was big enough for golf clubs etc. for the UK the suite was huge. The room was 9/10 for cleanliness .. it is a old building so it’s impossible to be perfect. Very kind helpful staff .. they gave us some great recommendations for nearby restaurants. My only criticism is the outside noise seeing how it’s location is central but that’s to be expected.
