We are a small, friendly, informal 3 star hotel. The first in St Andrews to be awarded the prestigious title 'Townhouse Hotel' by the Scottish Tourist Board. The quaint old building has a warm personality all of its own. You will love the craftsmanship of the many original features. Built from 1764, the hotel consists of two Georgian terraced houses, both exactly the same layout, built for two brothers by their father, Mr Thomas Low. With only 22 rooms (all en-suite), we are able to maintain very high standards in accommodation and service without losing our warm and caring attitude towards our guests. Special, great value seasonal, weekend and golf breaks are often available, so contact the hotel for details. The hotel will also be delighted to help arrange golf, sightseeing tours and visits to places of interest. We look forward to you spending some time with us at The Albany Hotel and getting a real flavour for everything St Andrews has to offer.

We stayed one night in the Albany Hotel. As a family of 3 we were given the Junior Suite on the ground floor, which consisted of the main bedroom with tv and with the bathroom with shower (no bath) off it, and a separate bedroom up 2 stairs with a single bed. From that bedroom, we had access to a decked seating area, for use only by people in the Junior Suite.
The rooms were spacious, immaculate and tastefully furnished, and bathroom was clean. Kettle and complimentary toiletries were provided, despite covid. Beds were comfortable. Only downside we found was that there was no window in the main bedroom, and the French doors onto the decked area were accessible by climbing a wall so not safe to be left open at night, so the rooms were a bit stuffy overnight as we were staying during a Scottish heatwave! Otherwise we could not fault the room at all.
We were booked on a B&B basis, and breakfast in the morning was safely done following covid protocols. Food was freshly cooked and tasty, with a good choice. The waitress was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed.
There is a small bar area, which was open until 11pm, serving drinks and coffees. It was very friendly and prices were great value for money compared to some establishments we have visited (£7 for 2 coffees and a soft drink). I can imagine in the winter this bar area would be lovely to relax in at the end of a day touring St Andrews with its comfortable chairs/sofas and fire.
The reception staff were polite, helpful and well informed of the local area, and offered to book us table for dinner on our arrival in a local restaurant. Check in was simple and quick.
The hotel itself is small but ideally placed for all St Andrews amenities and tourist attractions. There is free unlimited time parking outside the hotel, but for a limited area - be careful not to end up in the paid section! Town centre is a 5minute walk away and we walked to the aquarium in 10 minutes which is next to the beach and golf course. An excellent little hotel which we will return to in the future.

We had originally planned to stay with friends in a rented house in Fife but as the Covid guidance changed this caused us to cancel our third holiday this year. We decided to book a 2 night stay in this hotel (chosen online mainly because of location and price) with our friends (separate rooms....social distancing etc) and were not disappointed.
We were greeted by Esme who couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. She even brought us some ice in an ice bucket so that we could sit outside to enjoy a drink of fizz. Although our room was smaller than our friends (same price), it was perfectly clean, well equipped and comfortable and had a lovely view over the beer garden. The hotel was quieter than usual (i imagine) and we slept well with no sound disturbance even though our room was directly on the stairwell.
The breakfast both days was amazing!!! The girl who served us is definitely worth a mention as she was so friendly, efficient and helpful. The kippers were delicious, I wish I had chosen them both mornings! They must have a great chef as we all commented on our breakfasts having been one of the best anywhere we have stayed.
In summary, the staff are lovely. Very friendly, cheery and helpful. Procedures in place for hand sanitizer/social distancing etc are great also. Location is perfect for both golfing and shopping. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this well run hotel and will definitely return, hopefully next year. Keep up the good work!

I think it has been one of the best hotels where I've stayed in my life. The single bedroom was really wide and large, comfy, with also the water in the bottle of glass (never seen in other hotels). I have really appreciated the breakfast and the possibility to eat the real scottish salmon fished locally. I've found receptionists really gentles and availables to help you.

My wife and I stayed two nights in a twin bedded room at the front of the hotel. The room was not adequate. It was very small and there was no surface to place our two carry-on sized bags except the floor. The beds dipped some in the middle. The fan in the bathroom could run for 30 minutes after turning off the bathroom light (they were coupled): the hotel staff explained that that was to keep the moisture down in the bathroom after showers. All these problems would have been minor if we could have had quiet for sleeping. The room was was located on the ground floor next to the stairs, and we were repeatedly awakened by late returning guests talking loudly outside our door, often after midnight. Unfortunately, we could also easily hear people on the sidewalk talking as they walked by; and there was plenty of foot traffic as the hotel was across the street from the University. A nice touch was that the windows opened, however, the latch was broken and in a less secure environment, we might have worried about the lack of security.
The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, but they obviously couldn't solve the problems list above. The provided breakfast was fine, and typical of the ones we'd had throughout Scotland. I might add that this was one of the most expensive rooms we stayed in during our 2 week vacation spanning 5 accommodations, and the least satisfying.

Booked The Albany following good Trip Adviser reviews but, unfortunately, we were disappointed. The hotel is made up of two townhouses, knocked into one building, and the rooms are small and noisy. The bedroom doors bang incessantly, the floor boards creak, there’s road noise but, worst of all, is the noise from other guests using their toilet and showering.
On a positive note; the hotel is conveniently located in this lovely town; the sea is a few minutes walk in one direction and the shops are a few minutes walk in the opposite direction. Parking was a challenge over the weekend when the town was busy.
Breakfasts were tasty and the produce used was good quality. The breakfast room overlooks a very attractive garden.
Our friends were allocated ‘The Den’ and paid £167 for a ridiculously small room, just feet away from reception and the noisy bar/residents lounge. Their en-suite was tiny; they couldn’t even fill the kettle from the sink tap because the sink itself was too small. They commented ‘We have more space in our caravan’. They contacted reception twice, to discuss these issues, and were told their concerns would be passed on. That did not help their discomfort and dismay in the room, in the least.
We also paid £167 a night and our room was larger (though still not big) but facing the noisy main road and above the front door whereabouts smokers gathered to chat. We found our room to be dated and tired. The pillows were like concrete.
Afraid I can’t recommend and won’t ever go back.

Stayed in the Garden Suite with 3 friends whilst down playing golf for 1 night. It was a sort of apartment type room with 4 single beds a bathroom and a shared patio area outside. Was exactly what we needed although we all thought it was a bit pricey. However the service was first class from the friendly staff and it was in a great location, only about 5 minutes walk into the town centre.

Would definitely stay again if the price was a bit better.

I had the occasion to stay at the Albany Hotel for a few nights at a time, several times from September through October 2021. The reception staff is very friendly and helpful. My favorite rooms overlooked North St, and Beethoven Lodge, St Salvator's Hall, and Younger Hall. All the rooms in which I stayed were clean, tastefully decorated, had comfortable beds, and had desks and outlets suitable for work. I have stayed at nearly all the hotels in St Andrews over the years, and this is easily my favorite, having the best views and rooms and being somewhat less expensive than the rest. I did my PhD at St Andrews and lived on North St near the cathedral for two years; staying at the Albany Hotel on North St is the next best thing to having a house in that area of St Andrews, and it's one of the nicest areas of the town.

An excellent three-night stay at the beginning of April. All staff members were very friendly and helpful to our group of ten, the breakfast was excellent and the room was clean and comfortable. My only gripe may seem rather trivial; each morning the barely used bar of soap was replaced by a new one, wrapped in cellophane, and the half-used plastic bottle of shower gel was also replaced, as were all of the towels. In a world with greater focus on the environment (and costs!), I would have been very happy to have continued using the same items, and then asking at reception for replenishments/replacements as and when required.

Thank you so much for the great review. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay with us and very much hope to see you again soon. My apologies for the soap and towels issue, this is certainly a training issue as the towels should only be replaced if left on the shower floor and soap replaced if finished. I will be sure to go over this again with the team.

The hotel is incredibly central and in our 4 days we only drove 10km. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed during Covid restrictions but the dining room and bar were very well organised and felt very hygienic and safe. We had a ground floor terraced room which was really comfortable. Perfect location for anyone (particularly golfers) visiting St. Andrews. Would love to stay again but the only issue is availability. If it’s available book it quickly, you won’t be disappointed.

What an astounding find this beautiful perfectly located hotel in the centre of
St Andrews was for me. The staff were SO nice and SO helpful.

No detail is overlooked. It's furnished in a traditional way lovely furniture, watercolour
scenes around the historic town on the walls.
My bedroom was extremely comfortable, warm a selection of kelp soaps & shampoos in the super bathroom.
However the highlight was the breakfast that i had been eagerly anticipating
having peeked at the menu when i arrived.

There were so many traditional Scottish breakfast dishes ofon offer, like smoked haddock with poached egg, kippers and scrambled egg and porridge and cream to
kick off with !
I plumped for smoked salmon with scrambled egg and lots of toast that arrived  in a traditional silver toast rack !
It was honestly the best smoked salmon that possibly i have ever eaten ! a great mound of it too, not as is usually the case sliced transparently thin.
Annoyingly I was pushed for time otherwise-and certainly next time - i would have relished lingering for a couple of hours tasting all the delicious offerings on the buffet table.
Recommended with out hesitation, St Andrews has great architecture, shops and
is close to the famous golf links.
