Stayed at the Ardgowan on several occasions always been excellent however if you are offered room number 45 in the Pilmour suites simply refuse it’s not quite a full room. One half of the very small room is fine the other half is under the eves of the property so you can’t actually stand upright if you’re taller than 4 feet. The bathroom is so small you can’t stand up to use the toilet without leaning severity one side. The shower unit is so small you can’t turn around without stepping out onto the bathroom floor. There is no where to put your toiletries if your stay is for more than a couple of nights no real wardrobe space. I did speak to reception but tbh not sure they really cared. The hotel was far from full so no real reason to put a guest in such a poor room.

Hi NKR98, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We apologise that you experienced these issues during your stay, as the hotel was fully booked on the first night of your stay we weren't able to move you rooms until the next morning and when we contacted you the following morning you refused the offer to move to a different room. We would have loved to help resolve the problem for you and can assure you that our reception team are always happy to help out where possible but in this case on the night you initially brought this to our attention there wasn't any other room we were able to offer until the following morning. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Kind Regards, The Ardgowan Team

Stayed here for the weekend it was a present from my partner the view from the room well the less I say about that the better the room was tiny and the pillows were brick hard I don’t know if I would stay here again the staff were really friendly but the room really did let the place down for me for the price my partner spent I would have expected breakfast to be included and a bigger room or a better view

Centrally positioned to explore St Andrew’s. Free on street parking near by. Very clean and freshly decorated with quality linens. Friendly and accommodating staff( we asked for a quiet room as attending an interview the next day) and beds were super comfy. Cooked Breakfast was lovely. Would have liked some fresh fruit/ yoghurt and a choice of bakery items but it is an either or option set up. Coffee was strong, hot and plentiful. Rooms are on the smallish side but have everything needed for a comfortable stay. Great value for price paid and will definitely stay again if interview is successful. Would recommend booking directly with the hotel for the additional personal touch.

Got a free upgrade so the room was very spacious. Had to ask for the heating to be put on. Smell of dogs in reception. Breakfast was abysmal. Pouched eggs were solid and looked prepackaged & microwaved. Very poor quality ingredients and very overpriced. There was no guidance as you were seated how breakfast works and other guests were asking me where to get plates etc.. would never eat here again.

Hi 129paulineb, Thank you for your review - we are sorry to hear of the issues that you had during your stay with us. We did have a dog staying with us over the weekend that you were staying as our hotel is dog-friendly but i do apologize if this caused discomfort to your stay. I would also like to to apologize for your experience that you had at breakfast as this is not our usual expectation. I will make sure to pass these comments on to the departments involved to ensure that this experience is not one that future guests will deal with. I hope these issues raised wouldn't deter you from staying with us again and i hope we can welcome you back in the near future. Kind regards, Hannah Spink Hotel Manager

I booked this hotel because it is family owned and run. The reception area was lovely and the staff were friendly and polite. However, the standard of cleanliness, particularly in the bathroom, was very disappointing. The decor and design had clearly been beautiful when it was initially refurbished, but the room needs a coat of paint and a really thorough clean. The wheel had come off the shower cubicle and I was in the shower before I realised this - resulting in me having to hold the door closed, to prevent the floor being flooded. Breakfast ingredients were of a very good quality and cooked well however, we missed being offered fruit juice and there was no bread, to toast - the overall breakfast experience seemed a bit strange to me. I did get in contact with the hotel and they said they are closed over the festive season and will rectify the issues I have highlighted? Sadly, because of this experience, I would not stay here again.

I booked a last-minute trip away with an external golf travel agent and was allocated the Ardgowan Hotel. After my visit, I am incredibly grateful for this selection. The location of the hotel is superb with only a short walk to both the main street in St Andrews and the Old Course itself. The breakfast each morning was excellent with a buffet style/table service combo. Note: you are required to book a slot for breakfast in the evening before however, once you see the size of the dining room this is totally understandable and really not a hardship. Finally, I would like to mention the friendliness of the staff. Every time I went to reception from check in to check out and every time in between, I was greeted with a smile and friendly face. Would really recommend this hotel for domestic travelers for an overnight as well as international travelers staying a little bit longer.

I was spoken to in such a disgusting incomprehensible manner that left myself and fellow diners aghast. Never seen anything like this in 40 years of travelling. This member of staff has no business being in the hospitality sector. Zero customer service whatsoever. I hope for the sake of the professional staff employed and the reputation of the hotel that management take appropriate action to salvage what they can

We booked a last minute weekend stay at the Ardgowan and it was a home away from home. From start to finish the staff couldn’t do enough for us and everyone made this a perfect weekend! We also had the great pleasure of meeting the hotel mascot Mylo who is always pleased to greet his guests! The rooms were modern and comfortable, and the restaurant outstanding! A private family run hotel who clearly take great pride and love in what they do. Will see you again in November!

The Ardgowan is centrally in St. Andrews. The town is tiny, so it doesn't take long to get around. The hotel is really well decorated. Everything looked clean, fresh and neat. We never heard any other guests or street noise. We slept well. Staff was efficient, polite and accommodating. We enjoyed our breakfast. There was a a full variety. My husband really appreciated the Continental (larger and better balanced than a continental in the US). The full English was good. The eggs and salmon were mouthwatering. Cheyne did a very good job with service.
