From arrival to leaving the staff were open and friendly throughout. Our room was spacious and clean with all the facilities you would need althugh my wife thought the wifi was a bit patchy. we had an excellent fish tea on our first night served by a very friendly staff member and breakfast was generous, and again served by a cheery and chatty member of the team. All this at a very good price completed our stay and we were more than satisfied and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel where, all but the fussiest of guests, would be sure to agree.

Four of stayed here on a golf trip and we enjoyed every minute of it.The large room which held the four of us was only 5 mins walk from the Old course and was excellent value. We had breakfast included and had dinner both evenings. The food and service was first class and with sport on the many TV we couldn't ask for more. Many thanks to our host Margaret and i think gintty was the other lass name.We will definitely return again.

We stopped in for a bite and drink before hitting the road. The food was good and fresh. Fiona our waitress was excellent, great awareness to the current pandemic and made us feel really welcome with our toddler. Will come back next time and hopefully see Fiona again!

Firstly called to ask about booking a table only to be told we had to do it via the app as that as how table orders would be placed.
Having no wifi, we decided just to pop in. Plenty availability. Covid information was explained at the door by a lovely young man... all good so far.
Place was cold. Had to keep our jackets on while eating
Food which is reasonably priced, but small portions, arrived half warm half cold.
When it came to deserts the confusion began.
Chocolate fudge cake comes with custard, but be changed to ice cream.
Apple pie comes with ice cream, but cannot be changed to custard.
The 2 floor staff were as baffled as us, but apparently because the ice cream is vegan, you can ONLY have that with the apple pie.
Baffled? So were we and the 2 floor staff were clearly embarrassed, but their manager had said the kitchen couldnt cross contaminate custard and apple pie 🤣🤣.
Maybe come down off your soap box manager man and dont talk about your customers for simply asking why, to your bar tender within earshot of us.
We will not be back and certainly wont recommend you to anyone .
In these difficult times, a smile and some manners will help fill your pub, not help chase them away!!

We were the only couple when everyone else in the hotel were groups of men on golfing holiday and that pretty much said it all. St Andrews is not cheap and Greyfrairs thinks it can get away with charging a premium but you only get Holiday Inn quality. Think bathrooms with damaged sanitary ware, a shower that tries its best to offer more than trickle, thirty year old fitted pine furniture, towels and bedding with stains and you soon realise that their usual clientele is blind to the quality as long as the beer and whisky are flowing downstairs. Add to that, no carpark with an a early morning rush to move your car before the overzealous traffic wardens do their rounds together with students holding all night parties at various locations around the vicinity of the hotel and a relaxing, sophisticated place to stay at a fair price this most certainly is not!

It is not often I am truly positively surprised by the quality and atmosphere of a hotel but this place made it. To start with, the staff and the level of customer focus/service was outstanding. Arriving at the hotel I had some totally unrelated issues with my travel logistics and they really did all they possibly could to help and other than that just an amazing team. Further, I have stayed in a number of different "pub-hotels" and find most of them very cozy and comfortable but entering my room here was like walking into any high quality business hotel. Large, clean, light, aircond, with a very comfortable bed and functioning working desk. Obviously well working free WiFi. Adding to all this, it is located as central as you can get in wonderful St Andrews and also serves good food and a great breakfast.

Really poor quality food today in here. The Beer Battered fish and chips were so greasy it’s unbelievable. Yes I know that food should be greasy but this was way too much I had at least 5 teaspoons worth of grease under my fish. The other 3 meals in our group were ok but nothing to rush back for. The waitress was also rude to us and tried to take the plates away when one of our group was still eating. Won’t be back

Had a lovely meal here. Good choice of pub classics, burgers, etc. The service was very good, the staff were most attentive and helpful. COVID rules explained when we went in. Drinks and food arrived quickly, we ordered the scampi with chips and peas, also chicken, ham and leek pie with spring greens and mash. All very tasty. Would eat here again.

Wife and I both setlled on a burger, served with some kind of rosemary skinny fries. Wife asked for triple cooked chips instead of the rosemary option. So far so good. Meals both served with what were meant to be the rosemary option. Wife pointed this out, waiter stated the triple cooked chips were just coming. We explained they were meant to be in place of, not in addition to thinking we were now going to be charged for an extra portion of chips. In the interim whilst he went off our original waitress came by the table and said she'd made a mistake, the triple cut chips weren't available. As she did so guy behind the bar chimed in with there had been problems with the delivery lorries and that was why they were unavailable. This should be interesting we thought as the guy who brought the meals was supposedly off getting the now unavailable triple cooked chips. Low and behold the 'triple cooked' chips then appeared! Now having said all of that neither of the chips were as advertised. No rosemary and the triple cooked chips were we suspect frozen chips, most certainly not triple cooked. We mentioned this to the waitress when taking the plates away when we were finished and she said she'd mention it to the chef. When she returned no explanation about the chips - so guess we were right they weren't the nice sounding chips described on the menu but straight from the freezer? - but we were assured no extra portion of chips billed. Doubt we'll be visiting again.

Regarding my previous review I am happy to say our problem was dealt with promptly the next day by the Manager and we were very happy with the result.

I would also like to add that all staff members were very courteous and friendly, rooms were spotless.

We would definitely return.

I’m not sure you will need air conditioning being it’s so close to the coast and the country being naturally cool climate wise. You do have to walk through the far edge of a pub with restaurant but I wouldn’t have any problems bringing a child at that hotel.

There is a car park next to the hotel which is free, although it is tough to get spaces depending on the time of arrival. Free parking is also available on The Scores behind the hotel. Parking is free everywhere on a Sunday.
