Nestled in the heart of Glasgow, voco Grand Central Glasgow, an IHG Hotel, is lauded for its stellar location near key transport hubs and attractions, although the central buzz may lead to some noise. Guests consistently commend the spotless condition of the property and the inviting atmosphere that blends historic charm with contemporary luxury.
While the hotel's amenities generally meet guests' needs, the dining experience and temperature control have room for improvement. Opinions on service and room quality vary, with both commendations for staff friendliness and concerns regarding service efficiency and room upkeep.

Hotel's Favourite
Being a coach tour driver, I stay in alot of IHG hotels and I’m always delighted by the quality of their hotels, facilities and staff, my experience staying in IHG hotels are always a great pleasure and the voco grand central in Glasgow is one of my favourites. The hotel is certainly grand and lives up to its name, it’s the most beautiful, grand and elegant hotel I’ve stayed in so far. The staff are amazing, helpful and always welcoming. The various rooms I’ve stayed in have all been amazing too, the cleanliness of the rooms are exceptional and the cleaning staff do a tremendous job and should be rightly appreciated too. The restaurant and bar are top class and I always enjoy a night cap looking out onto the train station, which is an amazing view in itself…. I would just like to quickly mention that After staying in the holiday inn express, terminal 4, Heathrow, two nights before (also an IHG hotel) and having a really bad experience there. I was lied to, spoken to inappropriately and treat like scum by the night manager and staff, I’ve made a formal complaint regarding there behaviour as I believe it doesn’t matter who walks through your hotel door, everyone should be treat with the respect that they would expect if they were staying in an hotel, (which I’m still shocked by) the grand central hotel has restored my faith in IHG hotels. I would recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone staying in Glasgow. You won’t be disappointed.

Hello there I will as always in my reviews state my reason for the visit then a quick pros and cons and my final view on the hotel.
I was placed in the hotel as part of work training. I was booked in a cozy single room and while I will admit the entrance from inside was not super obvious I thin the problem may be because I had a tiring 3 hour train journey.
The receptionist I think her name was Mollie helped me a lot and was very nice and polite and would like hotel management to make a note and if there is a employee of the week/month I would nominate her.
My room was quite large for a single and was very clean and the free wifi was fast and stable with few issues.
The bed was lovely though the pillows were super soft though that is not a bad thing just a personal preference.
Finally the bathroom was clean and functional though hot water did take a long time to arrive but I have seen this in other hotels and once hot it stayed hot.
Pros
Easy location centrally and easy to reach
Free Wifi was fast and steady no issues or complex signup
Bed was comfy and room had AC and heating so was never too hot or cold
Polite and excellent service easily the best I had and I been to Japan which is noted for excellent service
Cons - not really cons more just personal views
Pillows felt too soft but some people may like that
Hot water for bath/shower took ages to get hot again I think it's a common issue in hotels and once hot it stayed hot and water flow was excellent

My wife and I enjoyed a winter weekend in Glasgow staying here because it is so convenient for the railway station and we thought it would be fun to stay in this grand old hotel.
Our room was spacious and comfortable but a little tired. We were dismayed to find that the ensuite bathroom had no heating and was quite cold first thing in the morning. We complained and they placed an electric radiator outside the open bathroom door. Also there was a fluorescent light in scaffolding outside the window that was on all night and shone through the edges of the blinds. I asked for it to be turned off during the night, but this did not happen. The room rate is on the expensive side and for the price paid I would have expected better quality. The staff were friendly and pleasant
The buffet breakfast in the Tempus restaurant was excellent but only worth it if you book it with the room, for around £8 per head. If you don't book breakfast with the room, the price more than doubles which compares badly with some excellent breakfast restaurants close by.
Be careful when booking this hotel direct on the"Grand Central Website" (which is actually the IHG global website) as they add an astronomical " tax chargeback and service fee" on top of the advertised room rate; it was around 37% in my case. I ended up booking via Booking.com which did not add this charge.

Chose this hotel due to membership of IHG loyalty programme and central location. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment as part of change in ownership. My wife and I stayed in a newly refurbished room on the 4th floor (which was very quiet). We had a lovely big bed but the room was very room poorly lit - only 2 bedside lights (no desk light or standard lamp?). The room was also missing two comfy armchairs or a small sofa on which to relax. The wifi was not particularly good either. The lack of attention to detail in terms of the facilities in the room and the finishes (poor snagging in terms of the recent redecoration especially in the bathroom) was surprising. We were allocated the wrong room on check in which initially was handled badly by one of the staff who was abrupt and rude. This was rectified satisfactorily by the duty manager later but is an enduring memory of our stay. At check in we were given vouchers for a drink in the Champagne Bar "Enjoy a glass of fizz" it says on the voucher. On ordering two glasses of Champagne in the Champagne Bar I was told the vouchers only entitled us to a glass of Prosecco (Prosecco is not Champagne and the voucher is misleading) - again a black mark and an unfavourable impression left due to this mean spirited offer.

Overall liked this hotel but did not get great service. It is grand in faded grandeur way befitting of its railway heritage. My colleague & I were given rooms on newly refurbished 4th floor, my room was nicely decorated but v small & stank of paint. I rang reception saying not happy to sleep in a room with paint fumes, they took 15 mins to ring back with alternative room on same floor & were not willing to bring the key for the new room so I had to collect it. The new room did not smell of paint & was twice the size of my original room. I had to take key for original room down to them - they did not put themselves out. I said they might want to make sure no other guests used room with paint fumes as a healthy and safety hazard (I am a health professional). The receptionist (Nicole who was helpful on our arrival) reacted v badly in what I can only describe as a passive aggressive way, not looking at me, busying herself with the computer & saying in a clipped tone "we will notify maintenance". No apology for paint fumes, for the waste of my time, not even the graciousness to acknowledge my concerns were legitimate. I was pretty appalled. By the way, my colleague's room was much nicer and x3 the size of my original room - surely if there are 2 people on same booking at same price, a hotel should put you in similar quality rooms? To have such different rooms on same floor/ in same price bracket is v odd. We will not be staying here again or recommending it to colleagues.

Hello 944maryannm, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate you for commending the fresh new look of our newly renovated property. Furthermore, we are happy that the property was conveniently located glasgow It is unfortunate though that we were not able to elevate your stay experience with us as a result of the lackadaisical service provided by our front desk. Our Hotel Management has been notified of your concerns and are working diligently to ensure that we do not allow our future guests to have this kind of experience. We are determined to deliver a combined sense of comfort and happiness. At the end of the day, it is the smile that we see in our guests and the joy that you share of your stay that we always look forward to. I hope you will give us a chance by booking with us again to show you that your unsatisfactory stay was an exception. Again, thank you for sharing your comments. Safe travels. Stayed at the hotel yesterday. Room was very cold as all the windows were open when we arrived. The heating was supposed to come on at 6. We couldn’t stay in the room any longer as by 7 it was still not on. We had planned to relax in the room until 8. We called numerous times to reception to ask when it was coming on. Poor attitude by staff. I feel they are almost used to complaints about the heating. I have a spinal issue and the cold isn’t good for it(not the hotels fault, I totally get that). But I didn’t expect to encounter this. We have stayed in the hotel several times but sad to say we won’t be back. Broken plug sockets next to my bed and only 2 small hand towels provided (had to call reception for bath/shower size towels). When checking out, we spoke with Brian at the desk who informed us that the refurbished rooms don’t have these issues. It’s a shame we didn’t & wont be experiencing the refurbished rooms. At £120 per night for room only, you would expect heating, towels and plugs that actually work.

The building is beautiful, but the staff and the breakfast let the place down.
The rooms are spacious and clean, but the curtains are filthy which makes the rooms quite dark. The breakfast is truly awful, the fruit was off and the "cooked breakfast items" were all dried out, left sitting for hours on hot plates. Coffee was bad too which was a big surprise.
Worst of all, my card was pre-authorised for £125 because the receptionist failed to check (after 20min) that the room was already paid for. Then it took 4 calls to get the money released - so 7 days later still no sign of the amount. Every time I was told that it will be sorted that day, but it was not until I asked for it in writing. Shocking and baffling!

After smooth check in we went out and returned to a cold room 421. We could not get the heating to get warmer. We phoned reception twice and a concierge came and demonstrated how to turn up thermostat. You need and torch and a magnifying glass to see the controls. We ate in the restaurant at 8pm the menu choices were very small. The young girl working in the restaurant was really nice. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. The room we stayed in 421 overlooked the entrance to the station and the noise throughput the night from vehicles really affront sleep. Breakfast in the room was good.

Under the new operators, this hotel has now been nicely refurbished to some of its former glory.
Checkin was friendly albeit not informative on the hotel’s facilities. And little in the way of recognition as an IHG Rewards Gold member. Arriving after a 30+ hour journey, which I advised check in staff of, I was disappointed to find the first room allocated was on the first floor directly above the function area. With afternoon Christmas parties in full swing to music and DJ commentary, I requested a room change.
Located on the 4th floor, the new room was quieter, with a small shower room (compared to the larger bathroom in the original room). With aircon heating on full, the room was still cold - staff provided a heater on advising them.
I didn’t use the bar or restaurant.

Superb Anniversary stay at the Grand Central. We stayed here 2 years ago and this time upgraded to a Suite and it did not disappoint. We Loved our stay and will be back again.
As we got off our train and went to enter the hotel the doors were opened for us and we were made to feel very welcome and at home. Our bags were taken for us and the hotel has a sort of 1950s class about it whereby the staff are very accommodating and they are professional at all times.
When we checked into our room the hotel had left us a free bottle of champagne and some chocolates with a card to celebrate our anniversary....was a lovely touch of class. We also received a text message from Mollie to make sure we were satisfied with everything which we were but it was nice for the hotel to check everything is ok. The bathroom was massive and had a huge bathtub in it which was great to relax in. Huge flat screen TV and lovely classy Decor throughout the Suite.
We had dinner in the restaurant and I chose the Duck....I can honestly say it is the best dinner I have tasted eating out. There was so much flavour and taste to my meal, really superb and I hope they keep the duck just the way it is on the menu for the next time we come back. My Wife had steak and loved how it was cooked to her liking as well. Drinks were nice and not too pricey and the staff were very accommodating, throughout our stay I found this to be the case with all the staff from reception, concierge, bar and restaurant staff are fantastic and nothing is a hassle for them.
We had breakfast in the morning which was lovely and had everything you needed from pastries, hot breakfasts and cereals. Only thing I would mention about the restaurant is you don't really know which door to go through at dinner, it's not really sign posted and nobody was waiting to see us to a table at dinner. We had to just walk in which felt a little awkward and this was at a 730pm booking on Sunday 23rd.
Notcied reviews about the hotel being cold. Didn't notice this at all throughout our stay this Sunday, the rooms were a good temperature and we actually adjusted ours to a slighlty lower temperature. The restaurant was also fine and you couldn't hear any noise from outside your room which made for a very peaceful stay.
Check-out is at 12 which is generous compared to other Hotels and it was lovely and quick. We were also able to store our Luggage while we shopped before getting our train home.
All in all I couldn't rate this hotel high enough. We absolutely loved our 2nd stay even more than the first 2 years ago and we were already talking about coming to stay here again on the way home but this time it will be a matter of weeks/months before our next stay.
