I have stayed in many different hotels in Glasgow over the years and this was a fraction of the price but I could not fault the hotel in all areas. Good central location and I would certainly return again in the future.
Grab and go breakfast, very limited compared to other Holiday Inns.
Very disappointed:(
Good:- For this type of hotel the room was spacious and comfortable enough, the hotel very centrally located and easy to get to from stations or nearby Q Park. As someone who is a more anxious traveller because of covid the efforts gone to to address the risks were reassuring. The staff were universally gracious, friendly and helpful, although unfortunately a very softly spoken voice with a heavy accent and from behind a mask made hearing what we were being told difficult to understand sometimes. The evening menu is VERY basic, but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and size of the pizzas we ordered.
Not so good:- The hotel itself was warm and our room, with no heating/aircon was extremely warm on arrival, despite it being October. The solution was the aircon which was quite noisy, blew very cold air down on us and didn't seem to be able to keep the room at a comfortable temperature even with all our attempts to adjust.
A short walk away is the Q Park which cost us £38 for 4 nights by paying the hotel rather than the Q Park ticket machine. The hotel ticket didn't work, but using the intercom at the carpark we were allowed out when we said we had paid Holiday Inn.
It is an extras £10 a night for 24 hour parking in the large concrete N.C.P plot opposite the hotel. I wasn't too sure about the security arrangements in this location but there are a couple of CCTV cameras around and I had no problems (apart from the car been covered in Seagull dung).
The Covid-19 breakfast setup was a bit dissapointing as there was bacon and sausage butties but no veggie option (No doubt many will think i sound like a moaning, woke vegitarian but an egg sarnie would have been enough). £130 for x2 nights was very decent value.
1) Walkable distance from the city centre and central train station
2) Located nearby riverside. Great for an evening walk
3) Comfortable bed and pillows
4) Air-conditioner
5) Luggage storage facility
6) Value for money
7) Breakfast - Takeaways option
What could have been better
1) Breakfast - Bacon and Cumberland pork sausages are the only hot food available. They can add scrambled eggs
2) Room space for a family. It was a bit congested to move around inside the room with kids.
3) Customer service
Issues faced
My room telephone line was not working and I reported 3 days in a row. but it was fixed only on the last day of my stay. Though staff assured me of the fix by the following morning, no one followed up with me whether the issue is resolved or not.
The hotel was v clean. The room was a decent size. The staff especially the guy who I spoke to several times, were really polite, friendly and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised at the buffet breakfast as it was really nice with a good choice of cooked and continental items. The croissants I choice were really nice and good quality. Breakfast time was busy but generally on both days the food was replenished quickly.
Overall if you’re looking for somewhere decent to stay with breakfast, HIE is very good value for money.
