Stayed for a one night stay with my husband and son just as hotels in Scotland were allowed to reopen and was slightly apprehensive about the safety and cleanliness. I have to say that the hotel has obviously put in a lot of thought and effort into providing a safe and enjoyable stay with hand sanitisers throughout, perspex screening, social distance signing throughout and exceptionally clean bedroom and bathroom facilities. We opted for the breakfast option which was very well organised whereby you chose a selection of items from the breakfast buffet which was placed in a takeaway bag which you could either take to your room or away with you. The only downsides were that we were woken out of our beds in the middle of the night with a false fire alarm but this was obviously out with the hotels control. The other being the parking charge but being city centre you would expect this.
I have stayed in many different hotels in Glasgow over the years and this was a fraction of the price but I could not fault the hotel in all areas. Good central location and I would certainly return again in the future.

We booked this hotel for 1 night with our 2 kids as a stop gap on the way home from a lodge holiday. We only booked it on the day we checked in. Got a great deal as it had only been opened 2 days since lockdown eased. The same as the other reviewer were a bit apprehensive but once we arrived all was well, hand sanitiser throughout & room was very clean. The continental breakfast was all individually wrapped & we took our selections back up to the room in little brown take away bags, the kids thought this was great & loved it. Parking at the nearby NCP was reasonably priced for a city centre & payable through the hotel at a discount. The hotel was a short walk to the city centre shops etc & also right across from the river which we took a stroll along the next morning. Overall enjoyed our little stop gap & shopping before the long drive back up to the north of Scotland & was a great bargain,

unfriendly staff, everything is an inconvenience and no manners what so ever right from check in. At least force a smile?? I stay in hotels regularly and this is one of the worst for service. The only good was that the room was a good size but beds are pushed together which was annoying. Very outdated and no sockets beside the bed instead a telephone?? It’s 2020?! Food is overpriced especially when it’s a shop bought pizza that’s probably £3 at most. There was also chewed up chewing gum on the bathroom floor, surely this should have been picked up by cleaning and loo roll wasn’t replaced from last guests stay, not so good. At night I could also hear every movement and conversation in the next room.
Grab and go breakfast, very limited compared to other Holiday Inns.
Very disappointed:(

Stayed as part of a Rail Discoveries package and we thought it was decent for what it was.

Good:- For this type of hotel the room was spacious and comfortable enough, the hotel very centrally located and easy to get to from stations or nearby Q Park. As someone who is a more anxious traveller because of covid the efforts gone to to address the risks were reassuring. The staff were universally gracious, friendly and helpful, although unfortunately a very softly spoken voice with a heavy accent and from behind a mask made hearing what we were being told difficult to understand sometimes. The evening menu is VERY basic, but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and size of the pizzas we ordered.

Not so good:- The hotel itself was warm and our room, with no heating/aircon was extremely warm on arrival, despite it being October. The solution was the aircon which was quite noisy, blew very cold air down on us and didn't seem to be able to keep the room at a comfortable temperature even with all our attempts to adjust.

A short walk away is the Q Park which cost us £38 for 4 nights by paying the hotel rather than the Q Park ticket machine. The hotel ticket didn't work, but using the intercom at the carpark we were allowed out when we said we had paid Holiday Inn.

Good location, staff made best of the Covid-19 situation. Room was comfortable, modern and clean as expected in Holiday Inn.

It is an extras £10 a night for 24 hour parking in the large concrete N.C.P plot opposite the hotel. I wasn't too sure about the security arrangements in this location but there are a couple of CCTV cameras around and I had no problems (apart from the car been covered in Seagull dung).

The Covid-19 breakfast setup was a bit dissapointing as there was bacon and sausage butties but no veggie option (No doubt many will think i sound like a moaning, woke vegitarian but an egg sarnie would have been enough). £130 for x2 nights was very decent value.

What we liked

1) Walkable distance from the city centre and central train station
2) Located nearby riverside. Great for an evening walk
3) Comfortable bed and pillows
4) Air-conditioner
5) Luggage storage facility
6) Value for money
7) Breakfast - Takeaways option

What could have been better

1) Breakfast - Bacon and Cumberland pork sausages are the only hot food available. They can add scrambled eggs
2) Room space for a family. It was a bit congested to move around inside the room with kids.
3) Customer service

Issues faced

My room telephone line was not working and I reported 3 days in a row. but it was fixed only on the last day of my stay. Though staff assured me of the fix by the following morning, no one followed up with me whether the issue is resolved or not.

I paid £117 for 2 night stay for myself and 2 children. The area seemed a bit run down but at no point did we feel unsafe and the location was central and had good access to all transport links.

The hotel was v clean. The room was a decent size. The staff especially the guy who I spoke to several times, were really polite, friendly and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised at the buffet breakfast as it was really nice with a good choice of cooked and continental items. The croissants I choice were really nice and good quality. Breakfast time was busy but generally on both days the food was replenished quickly.

Overall if you’re looking for somewhere decent to stay with breakfast, HIE is very good value for money.

I stay here weekly for work. Its an excellent place to stay. The staff are friendly, very helpful, efficient and the same team has been here for the past year since I started staying which speaks volumes for the culture of the business and the management. There is a microwave in the lobby which is great if you are a regular and want to heat your own food. Rooms are always spotless and 95% of my stays have been noise free, only once had a noisy family next door but the rooms seem well insulated and noise is rarely heard. Rooms also have aircon and great shower and bathroom facilities. Sometimes the rate jumps quite high in peak season but I would rather pay a little more to get the quality and service. Breakfast is included in the stay rate. Its close to all the central amenities on the edge of Merchant area and city centre. Bag storage and and late check in / out available for loyalty members. I can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for your Glasgow visit.

This was our second stay here, having last been just a few months before the start of the pandemic. We arrived about an hour early due to our bus/train connections, but were delighted to be told our room was ready and we were quickly up onto the 5th floor. Had a quick look from the scary glass balcony at the end of the corridor - don't look down !! The room itself was just perfect for us and clean and not worn. The breakfast buffet is the favourite part of the HIE experience as we do not like too much to eat, but a good choice of decent quality food was available to suit us. All the staff were great and although we were worried about the breakfast room being too crowded, it was not bad, and well organised anyway. It seemed to us that great effort was being put into getting tables cleared and cleaned thouroughlly as soon as guests left them. We have only one slight grouse, however, as because my wife is an IHG Member we have been used to getting a complementary drink for us both, not just the registered member. We had had such very recently in both Edinburgh and Liverpool. The reason was very reasonably explained to us but we were still a bit disappointed. Anyway, it seemed to us the hotel was being run very well, especially as we understand it was actually full.

I want to say 9, but call the hotel. What I do know is that we left at 7 to get to the airport and even though we couldn’t grab hot food, they had bagels and muffins for us to take with us. It was great.
