First the good things.
Laura (the owner) met us and showed us how to get in. The self check in is easy to work out, if she hadn't been there it would have been straightforward.

We were upgraded to a beautiful room with a view of the cathedral and necropolis. Sadly, the cathedral is closed at present.

The room was spotless as was the bathroom. The bathroom had Noble Isle shower gel etc which was lovely. The shower is a raindrop type with plenty of hot water and great water pressure.

Callum (Laura's son) was on duty for breakfast on both mornings. He's a delightful young man and a huge credit to his parents!

Breakfast was delicious: fruit (lots of it) with home made granola and yoghurt. Orange juice and tea or coffee, then home made sourdough toast with home made conserve.

Tea and coffee was in the room and the decaffeinated option was greatly appreciated.

So, why not five stars?
A really tiny gripe was not having anywhere in the shower to put the toiletries when using the shower. A little shelf would be perfect

Whilst the toiletries were lovely, they came in tiny plastic bottles which is so bad for the environment.

The room was serviced we were there for two nights. This was due to Covid and wasn't a problem in itself. But, we weren't able to refill our kettle or water bottle and we used the decaffeinated teabags on the first day. Laura did say we could ring her for anything but that seemed a bit over the top. She also said we could ask Callum in the morning if we needed anything and we forgot. So, I would suggest it might be good if there could be somewhere easily accessible to replenish our own stocks of teabags, coffee, water etc.

The bar and restaurant were closed, which is totally understandable given the pandemic but it did feel less like a hotel. It would have been good to have been able to sit in the bar as that was the only place we could access the free WiFi.

Overall though, a lovely place with great customer service.

thank you for taking the time to review and for the constructive comments. Glad Callum looked after you well and that you thought breakfast was delicious. So glad you thought your room was beautiful and spotless . I will take all comments on board and just to say we now have fabulous WIFI throughout and our water from the taps is all perfectly safe to drink for your kettle or water bottle. Hope if you come back to Glasgow you will come visit again. Our restaurant and bar is open fully Wednesdays to Sundays and we hope to extend this next year when things we hope should be back to more normal. Laura

We stayed here for a single night stay mid-week. As Civid measures are still in place all information was given via email I.e. directions, entry codes, keys etc. On arrival we parked in the adjoining side street on a metered parking place (20p for each 15 minutes) and uses the code. Our room was up a winding staircase on an upper level with 5 rooms on it and looked out over the park to the side. It was very clean and well laid out with a shower/bathroom. Breakfast in the morning was fruit, yoghurt, bread and pastries and was fresh and tasty. All the staff are very pleasant and it is definitely somewhere we would stay again. At the time of writing there is a state of flux due to new restaurant people coming in and covid measures but still worth a five 👍. Thank you.

Went to cathedral House Hotel beer garden today and had a fab afternoon. In the first day for beer gardens to be open as lockdown rules are relaxed they ticked every box. Laura and her staff were very attentive from advising you how long you would need to que to the procedures to follow. Once in the beer garden Hannah looked after our every need. The food was fabulous and atmosphere relaxed. I can thoroughly recommend this Hotel for service, good food and lovely beer garden. Our food and drink came to 47.00 which included 6 drinks and bratwurst fries, chicken wings and amazing loaded fries. Certainly will be back

The hotel is right next to the Necropolis and some of the rooms will even face it. For precautions, there is contactless check-in which wasn't a problem for me. In fact my room was already made early in the day so I was able to use the door code and get into my room without any issues. You just take your key with you and leave it in the door when you check out.

The hotel is pretty small with a circular staircase that goes up a few floors. There is entry level, then below that is the basement level where the entrance to the main restaurant that was in use is. Above the entry level is a closed restaurant area (not the main one) and restaurant kitchen and then 2 floors of rooms.

The top floor only has about 3 or so rooms if I recall and the hall smelled each time I was up there in 2 days of wood smoke for some reason. Not sure as I never smelled anything like it on the 2nd floor rooms or outside at all.

My room was smallish, but the bed was very big and took up most of the room. It was also loaded with pillows and was very confortable. There is also 2 desks and a pitcher of water with 2 glasses.

The bathroom was fine, had normal amentities such as shampoo, etc and nothing bad about the room. Shower was fine and had enough water pressure.

There are sockets next to the bed on the floor so you can charge up your phone, etc.

The room would go from warm to cold at night, so often I would be tossing off the cover and then having to use it again during the night. Traffic was very light and there was no noise issues at all.

The host whom I saw in the restaurant at check-out to pay was very nice and helped me get around town as I was staying elsewhere for the rest of my time in Glasgow...

dear Warlord, many thanks for taking the time to review we are a small and quirky house with only 8 bedrooms i think you stayed in our loft room and although the smallest in the house has a superkng bed and fabulous views. Glad you found the bed to be very comfortable I am sorry you found the temperature in the room variable i think this is just due to the the weather this summer which is extremely inconsistent and can be very warm one min and cold the next unfortunately out with my control . the wood smoke smell comes from the chimney as our restaurant partner Celentanos cook over wood and the chimney is located just outside your window . This is also why you could not smell on the floor below WE are looking to see it we can get our extract company to make this chimney more effective Glad you stayed with us and hope you enjoyed your time in Glasgow

We stayed for 2 nights at Cathedral House for a weekend break in Glasgow. The hospitality from Laura and the team was second to none.
Laura is so welcoming and friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble.

Room….We stayed in Room 4 which was well appointed, lovely comfy bed, great rain shower in the bathroom.

Breakfast … all homemade and an absolute treat! The granola is so good!

We had a few drinks in the bar, where all the staff were great, again, so friendly. Jas & Erin who kept the cocktails coming on Saturday night were absolutely lovely and very good at their job.

We dined in the restaurant, separate review… amazing!!

Parking in Duke St car park is currently only £5 per day, we just parked up and walked everywhere as location is only 15 min walk from city centre.

So glad we found this wee hotel. Will definitely be back

My husband and I stayed at the Cathedral House Hotel a couple of weeks ago for one night . We are very happy with our stay there and would highly recommend it to anyone . The building itself looked beautiful and is steeped in history . It is in a fascinating area of Glasgow just across from Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis and within walking distance of the town centre.
We arrived at the hotel and got an amazing warm welcome from Toni who got us checked in and took us up to our room . The room was beautiful with three large windows with lovely views looking across to the cathedral and the necropolis. The decor was amazing and the bed was lovely and comfortable. The rain shower was amazing too. Lots of lovely little touches like fresh roses in a bowl all added to the wow factor of the room.
We had lunch in the hotel when we arrived and dinner in the evening and the food was delicious. We also had a lovely continental breakfast next morning . Food and presentation were excellent.
All staff were very nice and friendly although we had most contact with Toni who was so helpful and we had good fun with her, particularly seeing her using the high tec communication system with the kitchen staff upstairs !! 😁 This all made our stay extra special .
We would certainly stay here again when in Glasgow.
Thank you x

We were upgraded to room 4 which was absolutely beautiful. Humongous bed, plush carpet and blackout curtains, a fantastic view of the cathedral, spotless bathroom with high quality fittings and fixtures; the shower was amazing! Toiletries were really nice too. Plenty of tea, coffee, water with tunnocks biscuits.

There was a book about Glasgow by the bed which was a nice touch as the building is in such a historical part of town.

Would recommend dinner there too. Food was fresh and full of flavour.

Stayed as a single guest (room 3) to visit my son who lives in the city. A very well run small family hotel. The bar and restaurant area is fresh and has lots of character features. I understand the hotel had been recently refurbished, nice neutral decor throughout. We had a great continental breakfast consisting fresh fruit and yogurt, sourdough toast and Danish pastry - made in house, juice and delicious coffee, for a very reasonable £7..95 each.
The shower was a little cramped and there was no shelf for soap or toiletries.
On the whole a friendly little gem with good views of the cathedral and necropolis. There is a small amount of road noise so take earplugs.

Thank you so much for your review. So glad you enjoyed the breakfast and our decor. Our rooms are all very different and due to the nature of the building (build in 1896) some where more difficult than other to put our monsoon showers in and unfortunately room 3 is the smallest. Noted re the shelf though!. Glad you found us to be a friendly GEM and we do hope to see you another time in the not too distant future.

I had visited the establishment in August and was delighted when we had the chance to go back. We dined on a busy Saturday night- looks like January hasn’t affected business too much. The menu was slightly different to the last time I ate which is assuring, a menu differing in seasons is always a good sign for me. My husband and I ate the soups to start- tasty and generous portion. We then had the burger and sausages. Both delightful. All the staff were delightful and attentive. My husband was particularly impressed as he was in the trade. The shorter male waiter stopped for a chat with us about our evening, he seemed to take a genuine interest even though he was zooming around the place. Overall a lovely evening in a lovely restaurant. Next step is coming to stay in the hotel. Well done to all the team

A beautiful hotel located in a perfect place close to the center and the Uni of Strathclyde. The room was very comfortable and had an amazing view, and the breakfast the following day was probably the best hotel breakfast I’ve had - all fresh, homemade foods! The staff were also really friendly. The only downside was that the room at the top (which we stayed at) was quite warm and didn’t have working wifi, but the lower floors had working wifi and were cooler. Highly recommend! :)

Dear Dream I am so glad you found the room to be very comfortable and enjoyed our fabulous views. To say the breakfast was the best hotel breakfast you have ever had is such a huge compliment! As you pointed out Dean our chef /co-owner makes the granola, bread and berry compote in house. I am sorry you found your room to be too warm, we are experiencing unseasonably warm weather and this is contributing to the warmth of so of the rooms however this will change i am sure as we move into Autumn. WE are experiencing problems with our WIFI on the upper floor and have an engineer coming out this week to review the set up and improve it so we have fully functions WIFI throughout. Hopefully you will come again to see us at Cathedral House. Kind regards Laura

There is very limited parking, 2-3 spaces for small cars only. There should be someone to assist with the suitcases, depending on arrival time. Best to confirm that with the hotel directly. All the rooms are upper stories, accessed by spiral staircases only. I had one of the twin-bed rooms, the room itself was rather small but I thought quite comfortable.
