My fiancé booked us a night here as a treat in December 2020; we had our own totally private hot tub exclusively for us to use - the hot tub was amazing, all lit up, just what you need on a cold Scottish December night!!

Our host was just amazing, she was so friendly and welcoming and nothing at all was too much trouble. The dogs are so cute!!

The place itself is just outstanding, absolutely spotless and the attention to detail is second to none. A huge comfy bed; with so many pillows and a really warm duvet!! (This is a pet hate of mine at other hotels, great big beds with one tiny pillow each and a paper thin blanket) But wasn’t a problem here!

Beautiful bathroom fully stocked with everything you could possibly need, great quality towels - a huge rainfall shower! Honestly, you want for nothing at this place.

It had such a personal touch with a welcome message left on the board in our room and you have use of the mini fridge which is fully stocked with miniatures; the prices if you wanted to use these were so reasonable!! But there is a big Tesco not far away so we went there to stock up on food and drinks.

The games room is great and a really lovely touch, a pool table, board games - there’s even a pick n mix set up!!

You can absolutely tell that the hosts love welcoming people in to their home and we will 100% be back in future, one of the best nights away we’ve ever been to!

We stayed in the Orange Fox room which had stunning decor and a lovely walk out private hot tub/ garden. Our room was super clean & has all the amenities we needed from: Robes and slippers, Hairdryer, Fridge, Shot Glasses to Champagne flutes and more. Our bed was so comfortable and we slept so well.

This is my 2nd visit to The Grumpy Schnauzer B & B and this place is by far the best stay I’ve ever had. The overall feel is homely, cosy and has such stylish decor. Parking is available right outside the front door and you usually get a lovely greeting from the dogs and sing song from Oskar Wosker the schnauzer😭❤️

We got to meet the Schnauzer dogs during our stay which was a bonus as we are such ‘dog lovers’. 🐾 They are so cute and very friendly!

The breakfast is worth travelling for alone! We are from Edinburgh so it’s about an hours travel, but it’s worth every minute for our stay. We had the pancakes and also the big V breakfast which is presented to our room and has dazzling presentation and wow factor taste! 🙀 We also got a JustEat takeaway and ate in the main dining area which was super easy and Maras Daughter, Bethany gave us a fantastic place to order from which was delicious! I also love that they use glass straws, to help contribute to our planet that little bit too. 🌎

I highly recommend staying here, Mara and David are so friendly and helpful. They will do anything to make your stay just perfect. The attention to detail is incredible and they even have an amazing gym on site.

The room had a TV which has Netflix and YouTube available which meant we could watch a comedy, feet up and relax during our stay.

I will be back again and again to this special stay.

Samantha.

We had an overnight stay here and could not recommend it more. Rooms were absolutely beautiful as was the whole house, we were made to feel very welcome from start to finish. We stayed in the orange fox room and got a tour of the full house, our private hot tub was huge as well! The house had very homely touches to it, such a clean modern place with a great vibe to it. The owners were so lovely and went to great lengths to make us feel welcome, we will definitely be back!

I booked the Grumpy schnauzer B&B for my besties birthday for a wee treat for us to wind down and relax and it's honestly the best place we have ever stayed, and we have stayed in loads of places. Mara and David are amazing hosts! They have literally thought of everything (chargers available, hair dryer and tongs in the room, toiletries, toothbrushes and toothpaste in the rooms aswell as a coffee machine and mini fridge with soft drinks, bottles of water at the beside, plenty of towels, and an ice machine in the games room you can access yourself). We stayed in the blue horse room. Which has its own hottub via private patio doors from the room, it was amazing! Breakfast the next morning was equally amazing. We had the big V breakfast, amazing, and I had a smoothie to cure the night b4s prosecco lol. The tea and coffee station available at breakfast literally has everything, numerous fruit juices, coffee machine with loads of pods to choose from and condiemnts galore for your toast. I could go on for ages about this B&B but it truly is brilliant and I will 100% be back. Thank u so much Mara and David for making us so welcome and sharing your amazing place with us 🥰 Kim & Jennifer x

First off I can’t recommend this place enough! My cousin recommended after a visit and that’s how we discovered this little gem. I was surprised by how many guests have been (check out the guestbooks, lovely touch to be able to write a note for the next visitors).

I seen a complaint about the location can I just say yes a little out the way but that’s part of its charm. I got the train (Coatbridge Sunnyside) then jumped in a local taxi (Penny Cabs) was £3.50 and it was a 4min journey. This is for those who don’t wish to drive - take note.

Arrived and was greeted by the wonderful schnauzer. I was then greeted by both hosts, had a lovely tour and told as we were the only ones for the evening we would be treated to a little upgrade (the biggest hot tub area & breakfast in bed 🥰)

The place is beautiful, rooms are gorgeous the decor, accessories just make it special and relaxing. We were in the sleeping dog room and we didn’t want to leave, happily sat with the doors open listening to music watching the world go by.

The room had everything we needed, we had brought some snacks but if anyone forgets anything items are available.

We were there to relax and that’s what we did we were in the hot tub area for hours, lights were beautiful in the tub and surrounding area.

If we needed anything our hosts were contactable, visible on site but could send a text message which I loved could ask a question quick response and didn’t have to move lol😊.

The bed was AMAZING! So comfy, had a fantastic sleep. The TV’s were impress - spoiled for choice and the picture quality - it was like having a live show in our room.

I didn’t use all the facilities ie the games room but I will just need to visit again for this 😂.

Breakfast was beautiful we had the pancakes and they did not disappoint 🤤💖

Highly recommend such a beautiful place

Visited last night and stayed in the Green Monkey room. The room had everything you could want and more. The view from the window is also lovely. Best night sleep I've had in a long time, super comfortable bed with loads of pillows and the couch was just as good.
The hot tub for this room is accessed through the games room and you have complete privacy once you're there. Other half was delighted he could thrash me at pool most of the evening as well. Loads of choice locally for takeaways which saw us through to the amazing breakfast. We had the pancakes and the only downside was that they don't send you away with the recipe, especially for the coulis which was delicious.
The owners are lovely and we got to meet the dogs before we left this morning. They're super cute and very friendly little things, especially Oskar who I could have happily brought home if I was allowed!
There is nothing they haven't thought of, there are toothbrush kits in the bathroom, water bottles next to the bed and enormous cosy robes for going to the tub.
Absolutely will be returning and anyone considering it, go ahead and book because you will not be disappointed. Huge thank you for our night away and hopefully be back soon.

Had the best stay last night at the grumpy schnauzer! Everything was amazing, the place was spotless, so different and quirky, we stayed in the sleeping dog and it was beautiful, the hosts kept in touch the whole time we were there always attentive and asking if we needed anything. I paid for extras for my parters bday which just blew me away. It all looked so much better in person, the photos don’t do the place justice at all. The hot tub was fab and the bed was super comfy! We got breakfast in bed which was genuinely one of the nicest things I’ve ever eaten before and my partner whos mega fussy also loved his! Got to meet the doggies before leaving who were all super friendly as were the hosts and I will defo be booking again soon! Thanks for having us.

We visited on a recommendation and managed to get a very last minute cancellation for the same day.
It is a very strange set up. Let’s start with arriving. The single lane track to the property is riddled with horrific potholes. It is not clearly sign posted and we thought we were pulling into someone’s personal driveway when we arrived.
We were met by the host who quickly pointed to where the hot tub and games room was then took us upstairs to show us our room - the green monkey.
The room was lovely and had everything needed (hence the 2 stars given) however, the cleaning standards were not great. There were spiderwebs on the lights in the toilet. In the hall way seating area outside the room there were dead bugs around the window facings.
The hot tub for our room was down the stairs, through the library area, through the games room and outside. Whilst we were out in the hot tub there were guests from the games room coming out to reach their room next door so there was zero privacy. The lid for the hot tub was completely ruined. It was broken in half and it was extremely heavy to lift back on even with 2 of us. The lights in the hot tub did not work.
The games room is a free for all, there is no way to book some time in there and 2 guests staying spent all night in there so we had no option to use the facilities.
The music in the games room was extremely loud right beneath our room until we turned it off just after 10pm. It was then back on before 9.30am!
The breakfast options in the morning are all vegan so we skipped this and left early.
The beds are listed on the website as being extremely comfortable but it really was nothing special. The tv had Netflix which was a nice touch but they had no freeview so Netflix was really the only choice.
Regarding COVID guidelines - There was absolutely no social distancing or any masks worn while we were there, even by the host when greeting us on arrival and showing us around.
All in all I wouldn’t go back and would not recommend this place. It is absolutely not worth the price being charged for it. There are many other places which are much nicer and better value.

Response from david mcdaid, Owner at The Grumpy Schnauzer B&B
Responded 24 Oct 2021
There's always one eh? I should have replied to this sooner but I could see from your other activity on here that you're a bit of serial bad reviewer. You've even reviewed Burger King! Who actually reviews Burger King? We all know it's rank! Ok, so you say that you visited on a recommendation and managed to get a very last minute cancellation for the same day. That's not entirely true. You accidentally booked the wrong date but we managed to shoogle things around and squeeze you into the date you thought you had booked. You say we have, "a very strange set up" because it's a single lane road to the property with potholes and it's not clearly sign posted and you thought we were pulling into someone’s personal driveway when you arrived. Well, it's a farmhouse and yes, it's a single track road (we've not built the dual -carriageway yet, sorry) as with most farmhouses. So, yes there are a few potholes as you'd expect to see on any farmhouse road. You thought you were, "pulling into a driveway of a house" because you were in fact pulling into a driveway of a house. It's an Airbnb farmhouse with a driveway for parking. There are ample signs too, so I don't know why you didn't see them, everyone else does. You say that the room was lovely and had everything needed (hence the 2 stars given). I'd love to see what you give 5 stars to then because the room is top notch in every way with Swoon furniture, a superking bed with a £3k Pure Indulgence mattress, a velvet Loaf sofa, solid oak flooring, a free mini bar with double door views over the Campsie hills. The room has a fully equipped en-suite with a huge walk in rainfall shower and ultra modern fixtures and fittings. I think 2 stars is ridiculous which is why everyone else rates it 5 stars! Your rating is just ridiculous! You say the cleaning standards were not great as you found a spiders web on the lights in the toilet? Come on, we live on a farm and there are sometimes spiders and they do build webs (yes, even after the cleaners have been in). Besides, we love spiders, they're sbsolutely amazing creatures! Nature's most amazing feat of engineering. In the hallway seating area outside the room there were dead bugs around the window you say? On a farmhouse next to the fields of horses and cattle, in the wilds? Dead bugs? Never! OK, we do clean up any bugs but sometimes more come during the day. It's a working farm we are situated on and you have to expect the odd bug. The hot tub for your room is indeed down the stairs, through the library area, through the games room and outside. Yes, but why are you trying to make that sound like an expedition? It's a 7 second walk (yes I've timed it). Your room is upstairs with the best views and I'm not aware of another farmhouse in Britain with upstairs hot tubs, are you? You want us to put the hot tub on the roof? Whilst you were out in the hot tub you say there were guests from the games room coming out to reach their room next door but that's not right as their room is accessed from inside, not outside. They may have come out momentarily to reach their own hot tub but I'd hardly describe that as, "zero privacy". The room next door to the games room has had double patio doors fitted since you wrote this review so nobody ever needs to pass your hot tub now, ever. The lid for the hot tub was completely ruined. It was broken in half. That's true, we had guests in a few days before and they broke the lid. This happened during the height of Covid so the new lid we had to order took three months to arrive. It's here now but yes the old lid was needing replaced. I'll give you that. "The lights in the hot tub did not work". Yes, the bulb had blown. If you'd told someone they'd have changed the bulb for you. It's a 2min job. Nobody knew as you didn't say anything. We are good, but we're not mind readers. You noted that, "the games room is a free for all and there is no way to book some time in there". That's true, we don't book the games room as it's free for all to use (as is the fully equipped gym and the dining area). Most guests are sociable so when they want to use the games room, they just come in and mingle with the other guests and take turns on the pool table. Sometimes a game of doubles is the best way to make sure everyone gets to play. There have been many a good night in there with guests mingling. You should try it sometime. You noted that 2 guests stayed in the games room all night, to which I can only say 10pm is not all night but I'm glad that our other guests know how to have fun and make use of the facilities. The music in the games room was extremely loud you say? I don't agree, we have a volume limit on the Sonos sound system throughout the house and it's set at an acceptable level. It's not a library we're running, it's a bnb with a games room and the majority of our guests are young, fun loving couples so music is a good thing until 10pm when we've limited it to. Music is good for the soul, you should try and enjoy it instead of letting it annoy you. Morning music, my favourite mix of chilled wake up tunes, not that loud but yes, it was back on at 9.30am in the dining area where all the other guests were eating breakfast. But not you eh? Vegan breakfast, how horrible? Imagine a plate of food that doesn't have a dead animal on it! Yukk, that must be vile. In actual fact the food here is one of the best things about the place. It's delicious but you didn't even try it. Please don't comment on something that you didn't even try! The beds are listed on the website as being extremely comfortable? Yes, because they are. The mattresses are "Pure Indulgence" superking size. They are £3k each. If these are not really special then I don't know what is. Everyone else comments on how amazingly comfy they are. You say that the TV had only Netflix but that's not true either. It has Prime Video, Netflix, IPTV, YouTube, Apple TV., etc. It's a smart TV, fully loaded with subscribed apps. I don't know why you're set on dissing our place! Regarding COVID guidelines - There was absolutely no social distancing or any masks worn while you were here. The girl who checked you in is mask exempt for medical reasons, do you want to see her medical history? You say, "all in all you wouldn’t go back and would not recommend this place".... whew!!

I recommend this for a relaxed night away. The hosts Mara and David are very welcoming and go out their way to make you feel comfortable. The vegan breakfast was superb. We stayed in the orange fox and it had a private garden with hot tub. We also utilised the games room for a game of pool. Their 4 schnauzers are also very friendly and worth the visit alone. You can order food in for the evening, there is a dining room, however we went to the local ‘The Tipsy Cow’ the cocktails and food were great. Hope to return soon.

This place is gorgeous. Very comfortable room, we were in the Green Monkey and everything you need is there. Chilled water, coffee machine, glasses, ice bucket, a table made up so you can order in food or have your breakfast in your room.
The hot tub was amazing, very clean and robes are provided. Mara is amazing, so welcoming and friendly along with her husband, they have created a really special place.
