This is a converted traditional blackhouse with 2 dorms, a family room, 2 shower rooms and a kitchen. It's a great conversion of an old building and the showers and kitchen are particularly good. The location is also impressive and only a couple of minutes from the coast. On the downside, it's not that comfortable as the sets of bunk...

run for many years by John and Pat, he entertaining the histellers with storied like having been visited by the queen in hid weaving shed ... while his wife was carrying out the more official hostel work. great place until the other black houses were excavated and turned into some center for groups which really spoiled the hostel. The warden...

Perfectly clean and modern. The beds are quite packed into the little rooms, but I found it fine. If it's a warm calm night, the midges WILL appear, so keep the doors shut. A bit remove from civilisation, so remember and take something for your dinner!

Hostel has just been refurbished and is in fantastic condition. Fascinating to learn the history and see the ongoing maintenance of the houses. Lovely place to stay and a really good, atmospheric place to stay and watch the sun set over the ocean. Handy to Callanish as well and you can go there anytime.

The kitchen is large and a great meeting place at the end of the day for everyone staying at the hostel. The showers were warm, and with two...

This was one of my two favorite hostels in four weeks of Scotland (the other being the Iona Hostel). I think for the most part the conditions of the place self-select for guests who have a sense of adventure and participation. Cleaning the place is NOT the warden's responsibility, so every morning some of us got together and swept, took...

The website tells you that you can't book this place which is bothersome, but we turned up anyway. Having got off the Ullapool-Stornoway ferry which was a new experience in rolling, pitching buoyancy, we made our way across to Garenin which took about 40 minutes. We arrived at the blackhouse village at about 9.30pm at night having not boooked and...
