The Old Ground Hotel garners praise for its excellent service, with staff across various departments earning commendations for their friendliness and professionalism. While the rooms are generally celebrated for their comfort and spaciousness, a few guests have noted issues with noise, outdated decor, and temperature control. Despite some expectations for additional amenities, many travelers feel the hotel provides good value, particularly appreciating its central location that allows for easy exploration of Ennis. The inviting atmosphere and old-world charm, along with a commitment to cleanliness, contribute to the hotel's appeal.

We booked the 3 night summer break deal which included 3 nights b&b plus 1 dinner. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and were directed by the friendly receptionist to our King suite. It was a lovely bright large room with windows on both sides, one overlooking the front garden of the hotel and the other overlooking O'Connell Street. Large tv, plenty of storage, comfy armchairs, fridge with bottled water, Nespresso machine, kettle. The bathroom was very spacious with bath and separate shower and his and hers hand basins. The dinner in the Town Hall restaurant was absolutely delicious with a very nice wine list. The outdoor dining space was beautifully decorated and buzzing as the weather was fab. Breakfast was very well organised, with the cereals, juices, breads etc being served to you upon request. Hot food was brought to your table and was excellent. The coffee was served in the cup and so went cold very quickly. I would have preferred if it was poured and refilled at the table. Pascal was very attentive asking everyone how they were enjoying their stay. We opted not to have the room cleaned each day, but could request fresh towels, water etc to be brought to the room so all felt very safe. The only fault we could find was the in-room phone was not working correctly. Overall we had a very comfortable, enjoyable break and would recommend this hotel in the centre of Ennis.

My husband & I stayed in this hotel Friday for 3 nights. We stayed as part of a bigger group who were playing in the All Ireland darts competition. We had dinner in the hotel Friday night & the food was delicious & the choice was super. Staff were attentive & friendly.
Our room was on the ground floor it was tastefully decorated & the bed was huge. The toilet was clean & shower was fine. I did email the hotel on the week previous & ask for a ground floor room & was so happy they could fulfil my request.
The hotel is probably 1 of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. It is so beautiful & situated at the top of ennis town within walking distance to shops, pubs, restaurants etc. The reception area is lovely with plenty of snug areas to sit & relax!
Special attention to all of the staff from cleaners, reception staff, breakfast staff, waiters & bar staff. Each and everyone of them are super friendly & professional & couldn’t do enough to enhance our stay! Noel, bar man in the poets corner was such a nice person & super friendly! The manager even allowed us to use a room to have some karaoke it was such a lovely gesture & ensured we did not disturb other guests with our “singing” 😂.
Highly recommend this hotel cannot say enough good things about it! Will definitely return in the near future! Thanks so much to the Old Ground for our fab weekend away!

Arrived at the hotel at 12.30pm on Sunday of the August Bank holiday, hoping the room might be available but willing to leave our bags with reception. Unfortunately, the room wasn’t ready as check in isn’t until 3pm but the receptionist said she would request the cleaning staff to prioritise it and to have a drink in the bar while waiting. After having a soft drink, we went back to reception at 1pm to see if the room was ready, we were told it was but unfortunately when we got up to the room it was still being serviced - this was disappointing after waiting for half an hour and paying for some beverages when we had plans.

However, we returned later that day to the room which we were pleasantly surprised with as it was quite spacious, had a nice view of the cathedral and courtyard and although was old fashioned it was upgraded with modern amenities such as a flat screen tv with chromecast functionality to play Spotify, Netflix, YouTube or tv of. Also had a decent air conditioning unit.

We had dinner in the Town Hall later that evening which was very good. My partner and I both had the chicken supreme which was both delicious and well portioned. The staff also provide a good selection of sides with your mains. We enjoyed our meal thoroughly and our severing member was great until unfortunately she left for the evening after she had given us our deserts and the closing staff were not as attentive.

Breakfast was very good, young staff are very friendly and personable.

Overall, would come back to Ennis/Clare just to stay here again and venture out to some of the bar/nightlife on the quays.

Only stayed one night Thursday , the location is great but on arrival around 3.30 there was no parking spaces left so ended up parking down the street. We had booked 2 double beds and had it confirmed by e mail but on arrival only 1 double and a single, not the end of the world but we found stains on the single bed and also the cups in the room were not washed. Went to have a shower before dinner and only had 2 sets of towels for a family of 3, requested more towels on 3 separate occasions but the never arrived! When we finally got down to the bar at 8.30 there was nowhere left to sit!!! After spending the previous week travelling around staying in different hotels it was a disappointing end to our holiday, won't be going back. Ps forgot to mention the church right across the street starts ringing bells at 7.30 in the morning!

Absolutely fantastic hotel. By far one of the best my partner and I have stayed in. Room was simply spotless, and the bottled water and plentiful tea/coffee was a nice touch. The Superior room we paid extra for was beautiful, with great decor and furnishings. Nothing ever seemed too much for staff, the food and alcohol was faultless. We can’t wait to come again.

I very much appreciate Mr Allen Flynn's immediate attention to my problem which he resolved with courtesy and without hesitation. Thank you Allen.
a non slip bath mat would be a source of extra security and may prevent a serious accident. the addition of a small writing table and chair would be preferable to being cramped up in front of the tv. i would have liked to see writing material supplied.

The Old Ground Hotel is a very centrally located hotel in the heart of Ennis and worth staying at if you are in the town. I had a lovely petite room on the 2nd floor which looked to have been reasonably recently renovated with nice soft furnishings and an extremely comfortable bed. A few little things in the room could do with being looked at to just finish the room e.g. hook to hang towel in bathroom for example but these things didn’t detract from my stay.

The staff are fantastic. They are hospitable, genuine and friendly and as a solo traveller made me feel very welcome. The new outdoor dining area is excellent and I hope when Covid is a distant memory they retain this, it’s a fantastic feature and actually would encourage me to go back. While you can’t book a table you can put your name down and I never had to wait more than about 20mins. Dining is limited to 1hr 45mins so as to allow as many guests as possible to avail of the service. The food is incredibly tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfast had a lot of variety and was also tasty and set you up for the day.

One thing to note the car park can be hard to get a space in but the car park belonging to the school next door is available to guests also.

Overall I had a very enjoyable stay, the hotel has a lot of charm, great food, fantastic staff and a central location and I hope to return in the future as it’s a great base to explore from.

Thank you. We did have a lovely stay. Staff were very friendly and kind. I wouldn’t have fed back at all only you sent me an email which prompted me.
The evening meal was amazing and good value for my family of 6. But unfortunately the morning breakfast fry was inedible each morning. I thought it was a good idea to book breakfast for us all as we are big eaters and my sons are big guys. But they wouldn’t eat it. It was a shame.
The bathrooms could be updated with a proper shower that you don’t have to climb into and a closed door system. I spent my mornings mopping up floors each time someone took a shower as I was embarrassed to leave it for someone else to do.
We were asked to eat breakfast in the bar one morning even though we had booked a time in the main dining room. I was sorry I agreed to same but was too embarrassed to make a scene . But it was uncomfortable for 6 of us and we couldn’t sit together. It is a bar after all and better to be there maybe at night.
Best wishes linda and Sean kehoe

Really excellent hotel. Lovely room, comfy bed and spacious. Peaceful and and wuietvat side of hotel overlooking the school. Was there midweek but no disturbance.
Staff all helpful and strictly following Covid 19 regulations which being a frontline worker was important to me.
Food lovely and great selection. Booking system for meals to avoid overcrowding. All residents wearing faceshields and/or masks when walking around hotel or conversing with staff. Removed when eating. All staff wearing masks or faceshields when serving food. New road closures a bit confusing but follow the spire for the Catholic Church and check route beforehand and you will get there.
We will be back for sure.
Thank you to Alan and Staff.
