An easy drive from Dublin and the gateway to many historic sites, this hotel is well placed for those wishing to explore the region. Formerly a school the owners invested heavily giving a sense of near gentleman's club elegance to the building. Breakfast to dinner, all meals are carefully prepared. Some may feel the portions just a little short of... More

One night stay. Have eaten here before and was impressed. Food good again but portions scarce , clearly looking for diner to order sides. Pity but the staff were pleasant and efficient. Room small but tidy. No literature of any type in the room except the evac plan and Bord Failte rates. Tv simply too small. Slight odour in the... More

A dear friend took me for afternoon tea at Scholars Townhouse Hotel, today Saturday, and it was absolutely divine. Beautiful fresh assorted sandwiches, fresh homemade mini scones, still warm, served with jam and clotted cream and little delicious assorted confectionery. This was all served with beautiful china tea set. I actually opted to have coffee rather then tea, and the... More

Spent here two nights. Very good, comfortable. Little bit small rooms doesn't make this hotel worse, as it located in the city center, clean, good food and drinks, very good hospitality. In your room you can find all minimum what you need - boiler, hair dryer, big mirrors (good highlighted). Despite on good hospitality and convenient location, be ready for... More

I've always loved to Scholars as a place to go for meetings or a light lunch in the bar. However I had the great joy of dining there last evening with a friend and left absolutely stunned by the calibre of dishes that were served. The service was as always warm, friendly, attentive and knowledgeable but it was the new... More

We chose to stay here because we were getting up early to go to Newgrange. This hotel is nicely decorated and the car park is free, but the rooms are ridiculously small. There is literally no place to put your bags (both my husband and I only travel with one carry-on bag). The beds were very small and extremely hard;... More

The building itself is charming. The public spaces are beautifully done with high ceilings in the dining room and bar. Lovely wood paneling throughout. The staff is friendly and willing to serve. We had the double room which had a large canopied bed which took up most of the room. Bathroom was fine but nothing close to luxurious. Tall tub... More

This is a first class restaurant, with great food and professional service, but with rooms that are just too small. It's in an interesting building and impressively decorated and furnished. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Even if the rooms were 50% larger, they would still be classed as small. Also the room wasn't in good order: you had... More

In general, a good stay. We found the staff welcoming and friendly. Bed kinda hard. Bathroom was tiny, but super hot water was great. We ate at both the restaurant - awesome, and the bar, not so awesome. Breakfast was enjoyable in the nice dining room. We were there to see New Grange, not Drogheda, so it did the job... More

Myself and my partner stayed in the scholar hotel on a number of occasions and just loved it , however we didn't enjoy the experience so much on our last visit , an awful smell of gas in our tiny bed room bathroom (match box size ) . Insedently got that same smell last time, anyway we went out down... More

Dear Nancy We apologise that the room you were allocated was not to your satisfaction, but we are quite explanatory on the website in regard to the size of the rooms. The room you actually stayed in is not the size of a match box that is a ridiculous statement. It has a large bathroom with double shower. Queen size... More
