We always stay at Bloc Hotel when travelling from Gatwick especially when it is an early morning flight. The rooms are small but if you are only there to sleep all that matters is a comfortable bed (which this is). The shower rooms are nice as are the toiletries. One thing that could be improved is the hot drinks room (if you have the standard room there aren't any hot drinks in the room) but this doesn't put us off.

Hi Jen, we're really grateful to hear from returning guests that what we offer here at Bloc is exactly what you want for your stopover at Gatwick. I'll be checking with the Operations team what we can do to improve the Hot Drinks room to make your stay absolutely perfect. I don't know if you're signed up to our VIP programme which would make you eligible for free room upgrades where available, if not, definitely do. I hope you'll be staying again soon and we can look forward to welcoming you then. With warmest wishes Sarah

Probably one of the smallest hotel rooms you’ll ever stay in, but the bed was very comfortable, and the room immaculately clean. An excellent location for those just sleeping over to catch a flight next day.

The elevators in the hotel exit directly airport concourse . All staff were polite and helpful. Walk in shower, Wifi and connected flat screen TV at bottom of the very comfortable bed. Suites are from the luxury runway suite to budget traveler and mid range in between. I stayed in Aspire room with corner windows overlooking airport, sound proofed, so you can see planes landing without any noise. Can recommend. Have booked again next month.

We arrived at the Gatwick North Terminal at midnight after a long flight from Athens and had a flight to the States the next morning from the South Terminal. So, we knew our stay would be short and convenience was at the top of our requirements. We reserved a Vista Plus room that I thought would be larger than most and had a window. Of course, you need to be aware that these are tiny rooms...with 4 pieces of luggage, it was a tight fit! The bathroom is equally small and represents why I would likely NOT book here again if I could avoid it. First of all, the bathroom isn't terribly private, with a frosted glass door and glass panel facing into the sleeping area. We've been married over 50 years, but there are some things we just don't need to see! The worst of it, though, is that the bathroom is also the shower room. Yes, the toilet and sink share the same space where one showers. So, once you shower, you need to dry the toilet, sink and floor off in order to have a functioning bathroom again...you know, to shave or put on make-up, go to the toilet, etc. It reminded me of when I had a sailboat! Plus, there is a hand-held shower wand, which I used. I only discovered there was also a rain shower on the ceiling when I tried to turn the shower off and instead it turned on the overhead shower. What a surprise! I turned it off quickly, but it was finicky and continued to drip whilst I was trying to towel off. On the positive side, it is very easy to get there from the NorthTerminal using the shuttle train and it is right next to the security entrance for South Terminal gates. Plus, the hotel gives you a free pass to the expedited security line. Finally, the bed was indeed comfy. The hotel serves its purpose...just make sure it will serve yours!

Hi Cliff, many thanks for all your varied comments, it's a real help for us to know those things that guests enjoy and the things that they don't. Our Vista Plus rooms are fairly compact and have the wet room that you're not a fan of. I've got a solution for you; our VIP rooms, they're much more spacious and they have a traditional separate shower cubicle so all the privacy you need. If you book well in advance, directly with us, you'll get our lowest rates. We operate a Price Match policy for the same room type on the same night and will give you a further 5% discount on anything comparable you've found online. I hope this will mean the VIP room will be within budget and you can return and enjoy all the things that served their purpose for you. With all best wishes Sarah

Stayed in an aspire family room 1 night with husband & teenager. Lovely good size room, clean & comfy. Nice white fresh bedding and towel bales provided. Complimentary bottles of water. Very easy use of controls for room access and room controls from your phone. Enjoyed the super view from the room. Any airport/plane enthusiasts dream. Loved seeing take offs/landings. Impressed how quiet it was and got a very comfortable sleep. Dinky little shower/toilet room. Beautifully clean. I would definitely recommend and will be returning customer . .. my only negative was the coffee/tea/hot chocolate was rather poor. Otherwise super and ideal stay so convenient inside terminal building. Also given complimentary premium security voucher. Well done

Love the concept. Booked a VIP room with runway view and it wasn’t cheap but thought I’d treat us. All amazing but for one thing, the lighting around the windows can’t be switched off. Now, I’m a pretty light sleeper and I need it dark, the blackout blinds work a treat and I can’t fault anything else about this hotel but this is pretty fundamental. I spoke to reception who suggested turning the main light switch on and off which I tried but no joy and the lights remained on. When I explained I’d tried that then they couldn’t really suggest anything else and said “sorry, take care”. As I may here at 12.30 at night typing this I’m wondering whether it was worth the £200 for a sleepless night. Sorry Bloc, love the idea but you could do better!

Hi Pete, thanks for the review but obviously I'm really sorry there was an issue with the lights not switching off as they should've done. We don't expect you to come and stay and have a sleepless night. I can't tell when you were with us and which room you were in from a Tripadvisor review, but I'm really keen to investigate this further, Could you contact me at Guest Relations at Bloc please and I'll see what I can do to put things right and encourage you to come back and get the best out of Bloc. Looking forward to hearing from you. With kindest regards Sarah

Outstanding customer care! This was my 2nd booking at the Bloc Hotel in Gatwick South terminal. I have to say it’s the only time I have travelled to airport check-in totally stress free. But I have to say I have never experienced such a caring and thoughtful customer service. I had unfortunate unforeseen circumstances with my 2nd booking and needed to contact them. They replied to my email immediately and were AMAZING! Such a state of the art set up and easy check in and out makes it a must! Highly recommend this hotel. Thank you Bloc you did well and I wanted others to know.

Second time we’ve stayed here before flying. Yes it’s not the biggest room but it’s clean, modern and very comfortable! Love the free hot drinks machine too! Great coffee! Not to mention how easy it is to fly on an early morning wake up!

Stayed in a bunk-bed room with my older daughter. Fine as long as you realise you are just buying somewhere to sleep. Floor space was very limited and hard to negotiate around our suitcases. Biggest drawback is that there is no decent mirror in the bathroom, only a smoked-effect mirror. Looks fancy but impossible to actually apply any make-up. Room is supposed to be soundproof but I could hear a lot of noise from upstairs from dragging suitcases and showers. Perfect location, will stay again but would be nice if the mirror issue could be addressed.

Hi Sarah, thanks very much for this feedback. Our twin rooms are our most budget-friendly and smallest rooms but should be perfect for a comfortable night right in the heart of the South Terminal. I'll bring the issue of the mirror up with the Design team. In other room types like the Vista there are perfectly clear mirrors which may prove to be much more suitable. Get in touch with us directly and we'll assist with room choice next time you're thinking of staying. I'm delighted you'll be back to stay again and hope it's not too long before we welcome you back. Best wishes Sarah

Like most, we stayed for one night awaiting our flight the next morning. It was a good choice for us but it is aimed at a very specific market. It’s ‘in the south terminal’ so you can just walk out and straight through to your flight. It’s also very handy for the train station in case you are arriving by train or fancy an hour or two in Horsham or Brighton while you wait. The rooms are basic but clean. There’s not much space for luggage and your bed may well be against the wall. Showers are taken in a wet room - which is ok as long as you don’t need to pop to the loo wearing your socks while the floor is still wet. It’s a good practical choice but I doubt you’ll want to spend any longer than you have to.

Room Tip: There’s not much in the south terminal. Take the train into Horsham for a break.

Hi Rambler, many thanks for this feedback. As you know having stayed here, we're a room-only hotel without communal facilities. That's because we're aiming to provide a quiet, clean, comfortable place for travellers spending a night in the airport before an early flight or a night after a late flight. We've got varying room types, some with beds against the wall on three sides and some with head end only against the wall. All the different configurations are clear on our website so it's a good idea to take a really thorough look so you're happy with the room type you choose. There are also rooms with and without wet rooms, the VIP rooms for example have a traditional shower cubicle. We think we've catered for most eventualities. I'm delighted staying at Bloc was 'a good practical choice' and hope you'll continue to choose to stay here when you're travelling through Gatwick. With very best wishes Sarah
