We stayed in room 123 on the first floor ( lifts available ) however this overlooked the car park of the neighbouring hotel which generated a lot of morning delivery noise. However this was just a small factor but we’d request a different room next time. Bathrooms provide shower Gels and shampoo and conditioners. Dressing gowns and slippers.
Nesprsso coffee machine is in the room with tea and milk. A mini bar also in the room with water and a bottle of red wine. All these are chargeable so please check prices. Nothing is free! However handy. There’s an office licence just on the corner near the hotel so worth a visit to buy your wine there.
Staff and reception were every helpful. English speaking with recommendations of restaurants to visit and bars to drink at. Taxis are unable to drive down the road to this hotel, However we were directed by a very helpful taxi who showed us where we needed to go. 1 min walk from the square or the main road.
There are two areas of this Hotel but I’d you find yourself going to the incorrect one it’s ok you’ll be directed where to do. It’s just in the same block but round the corner. Hotel closes at 10:30pm at night so you need to call the intercom on arrival and they will let you in. Maybe a new modern key access is needed but it wasn’t a problem to get in after this time.
Bordeaux was amazing. The people were friendly, it felt safe, it felt like a well kept city, clean, tidy with class.
Trams are 5 Eros a day or 1.70 for a single journey.
Visit the Citi du vin ( wine museum ) just a short tram ride away. Perfect for a few hours and a day out.
We were only minutes away from the main square, the Place de la Comedie, and we could easily walk to all the main sights. We also had lots of choices for restaurants and bars in the evening and hotel staff gave us a couple of good recommendations.
The room, while not huge, was of a comfortable enough size and more importantly, was very quiet at night. It also had a bar-fridge (very handy) and coffee machine (although no kettle for tea).
The bathroom was spacious and clean, with a nice deep, triangular bath. However there was no separate shower and you had to step into the bath to use the hand-held shower piece. Whilst this is normal in many cheaper hotels, it was a little unexpected here.
TWO HOTEL LOCATIONS: It is worth noting that that the hotel is split between two locations on two different streets. It was not until we arrived with our bags and tried to check in that we discovered that we were at the other hotel, around the corner. There was nothing for it but to drag our bags back downstairs and around the cobbled street to find our room. Later, I found one email (which I had missed because it was sent the day of our arrival), informing us that there were two hotel sites. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late. This was a frustrating process which could have been easily avoided with good communication. I’d have expected better.
TIP FOR DRIVERS: Although parking is available, the hotel charges extra for this and in any case, navigating the city is tricky and the narrow cobbled streets mean that you can’t drive to the door of the hotel. Bordeaux is a very walkable city so we found it easier to return the hire car to the rental place on the city outskirts and catch a taxi to the hotel. We didn’t miss the car at all during our stay here.
