A new luxury hotel in Bordeaux town with an excellent spa and a Japanese restaurant with a good wine list. Designed by French architect Philippe Starck, it is owned by Les Carmes Haut-Brion, one of the most exciting producers in contemporary Bordeaux. Hotel is well located within a walking distance to the cafes, design and antique shops in Chartrons.

Great discovery for this new hotel located halfway between the city center and Bassins à Flot. Surface area of my room not very large but very nice classic services revisited.
Excellent bedding and original shower design.
A pleasant moment by the swimming pool of the intimate SPA and above all the facial massage was a pure pleasure.
To finish on the catering part, buffet breakfast and dinner based on Japanese specialties, very good but a little expensive (we are still in a beautiful 5-star setting).

Very pleasant and attentive staff. A special mention for the welcome given to our dog who was provided with a comfortable basket.
The hotel's "Cocooning" atmosphere leads to rest and relaxation that can be extended at the SPA (if you remember to book in advance) or by the pool with Hammam and Sauna facilities. quality.
On the restaurant side, the fusion concept of Japanese and French cuisine is successful and very well executed, the wine list is impressive and guarantees an appropriate food/wine pairing for which the sommelier is rather relevant in his advice.
The discovery of the “local” wine C des Carmes was a very pleasant surprise.
The breakfast stop remains engraved in our memory by the profusion and quality of the dishes offered. You have to taste the milk chocolate, it is exceptional.
The only downside, because you really need one, is that the number of deckchairs by the pool is limited, which makes access difficult, which is a shame because they are very comfortable.

Overall the hotel did not feel like a five-star experience, with many issues during my stay ranging from room availability and comfort to billing mistakes. I expected more from a hotel outside the city center trying to compete for discerning travelers.

The hotel location in Chartrons is outside the city center and about a 10-minute walk to a tram line and an 8-minute ride into the main sites.

The room was compact even at the Premier level. There was no "leather banquette and stone table" in front of the bed as advertised in the room description, but note the accompanying photos, but instead a small table in between the bed and the hallway.

The in-room temperature controls often had no effect on the actual temperature of the room. The lights in the hallway, which also stores clothes behind a curtain, were dim if you could get the lighting control to work, otherwise you might be navigating with nearby light from the bathroom. Members of my tour group reported similar issues with their rooms, so this doesn't seem like an isolated occurrence.

I was overbilled by the hotel for my stay but, potentially due to an early morning check out, no one was available to help me resolve the issue. I was told a manager would follow-up with me about the discrepancy but had not received any contact a few days after my departure when I submitted my own accounting of my stay to the hotel. I was eventually refunded a few hundred Euros I was overbilled.

I enjoyed the breakfast and the on-site restaurant. I did not spend time in the pool, sauna, or steam rooms.

bad location, far from the center, there is nothing nearby, to get to the city you need to take a taxi or have your own car, but there are problems with parking in the city. the hotel has a restaurant with poor service and unfriendly staff, there were also problems with the food, I ordered a roll with crab and there were always crab shells there, the bill was also mixed up and they charged us 2 times more expensive. the breakfast was very poor and not tasty, so in the end we were left hungry and ate the rest of our meals elsewhere. big problems with organization in the restaurant. It was very difficult to sleep in the room itself; as a result, you were hungry and didn’t get enough sleep. but the shower in the room is pleasant. The impressions from the hotel are not pleasant, although it is new and beautiful, but the staff is a problem

We had been really looking forward to staying at The Mondrian.

We booked the Summer Offer B and B which included, room available from 9am, (Heure d'enregistrement: La chambre est disponible à partir de 09:00.) and ...

"Arrive when you want, parking is on us, get upgraded, sip a cocktail per person at the bar, and leave by 2pm" ...

We arrived with our car and had to go looking for the valet - there was no sign to clearly indicate where the reception was so I first went in to the restaurant where a member of staff (not overly friendly) sort of directed me.

Once at the reception, after a short wait, we began the booking in process. It was shortly after 2pm and the receptionist said she had to phone to check if our room was ready! I advised that it was supposed to be ready from 9am (as per my booking conditions) and she said that it is hard to have the room ready for 9am if people are leaving from the night before after 12pm! I had to mention the upgrade also - the receptionist clearly wasn't aware about the terms of the offer!

I had to go back to the reception to ask about our free cocktail. The male member of staff seemed surprised we hadn't been given our voucher at checkin. No apology was offered.

I have to say the room was beautiful and would have been perfect if the airconditioning worked. There was also slime of some sort on the table and a grape seed in the bathroom that a previous occupant must have spat out! Other than that the room appeared to be clean.

There was a heatwave warning in force and in any event, no-one wants to sleep in a warm room. I spoke to a member of staff at the reception if he would be able to set the aircon to 17.5oC - he advised that a technician would look at the problem remotely. When we arrived back to our room after dinner the thermostat initially read as 17.5oC (although it certainly didn't feel like that). We were unable to sleep as it was so warm! I got up at one stage and the thermostat was showing 21oC - I guess the technician turned it up again remotely.

The bed was harder than I am used to and the pillows were too soft.

We ate at the hotel's restaurant, Morimoto - separate review but bottom line we were not impressed.

Breakfast was okay but coffee and omelette order was slow and the member of staff wasn't particularly pleasant. It was not a 5 star breakfast by any means!

At check out our bill included the parking which was supposed to be complementary as per our offer. The receptionist seemed reluctant to deduct it from the bill and made it sound as if she was doing us a favour rather than it being her mistake. She didn't apologise!

The Summer B and B offer turned out to be a bit of a scam! If you have booked this package make sure you get what you are paying for and check your bill.

We did have a nice enough stay as the hotel itself was beautiful - but although the hotel may look 5 star the service, staff and room comfort are definitely not.

The receptionist (the same one booked us in and checked us out) was very unprofessional given that she clearly did not know the details of the packages offered by the hotel and it left us feeling rather embarassed having to ask and check every detail because she didn't know her job! We wouldn't go again and won't be recommending this place to our friends.

Bad experience: I made the wrong booking day for a hotel room. (Remade on Friday while we came on Saturday)
On Saturday evening I come to find an arrangement as the establishment still cashed the money and there were rooms available THOSE evenings. I say that I wanted to surprise my companion who accompanied me.
Here are the different points:
-a young man "welcomes" us by placing a hello to the 3rd word of his sentence.
-sitting with his back to him waiting to see what he could do for us, he begins his explanations without even calling us
-despite the fact that I got closer to his office, he tells me loud and clear the rates that I will have to repay because no refund possible (booking non-refundable) My companion was quickly cooled.
-so we decide to leave and ask this young man to cancel my reservation made at the spa for the next day and see with his manager if she could do anything. However, the spa called me back the next day to find out why I wasn’t there at 1pm.
-after a few exchanges by email, the result is the same >I will have to repay if I wish to come. An “upgrade” was proposed to me.
5-star hotel, maybe. Welcome 2 stars certainly.

During a visit to Bordeaux for 2 days, my wife and I discovered the new hotel and culinary "sensation" of Bordeaux that we had strongly recommended.
We were not disappointed, the rooms are absolutely comfortable with impeccable bedding. The decoration is warm with the inimitable Stark style.

As for the restaurant: a real discovery. In my opinion, it is the best provincial Japanese restaurant that I know. With a top wine list. A smiling welcome and impeccable service.
And the cherry on the cake is good value for money.

We decided to go for a drink, but as soon as we arrived we were greeted in a cold manner by the waiters. Several of them seemed to be deliberately ignoring us. Fortunately, we were made very welcome at the hotel reception, who kindly directed us to the restaurant. After a few minutes of waiting, the waiters finally found us a seat. However, we had to wait another 10 minutes to receive a single menu card for two people, which was not very convenient.

Despite this, the selection of drinks on the menu was very pleasant. However, the font used on the card was quite small, making it difficult to read. When the waiters brought our drinks, the mojito was delicious, but we noticed the lack of coasters and napkins. When I pointed this out to the waiter, his response was simply “yes, that’s true”.

With a price of 30 euros for two drinks, one would expect impeccable service. In summary, the place is pleasant with very pretty decoration (thanks to Starck), but the service at the bar leaves something to be desired.

A breathtaking experience in this establishment which rubs shoulders with the greatest. Here everything is thought of to make us have a magical weekend. If we start with this building, as curious as it is impressive, the oenological tone is set from the entrance and reception. From the reception to the discovery of the rooms we are speechless. The decoration, the materials, the bathroom, the bedding, everything is sublime and well thought out. The interior architect then reveals himself in what he knows how to do best, that is to say sober, chic and refined luxury. The human experience is worthy of a palace, the staff is very smiling, attentive and warm, which makes us feel privileged and infinitely good. The afternoon is conducive to calm and pleasure while spending a few laps in the swimming pool. The evening continues afterwards at the Morimoto restaurant which already has a very good reputation among connoisseurs of Bordeaux and elsewhere. Perfectly defining the soul of the hotel, here the flavors are mixed between Europe and Japan. Not being fusion only to be fashionable, the menu turns out to be a real invitation to Japan, its traditions, and its farandoles of delicious sushi (Oh-Toro, eel, or amberjack) and carpaccios...The show does not is not only in its aburi sushi, burned at the table but also in the restaurant, where there is a festive and friendly atmosphere hosted by a DJ. For those who are less music lovers, just sit down like us near the open kitchen and listen attentively to the chef Bartender passionately revealing to us all the secrets of his Sake menu. The next day, breakfast prolongs this feeling of serenity. The buffet is abundant in pastries and delicate savory dishes, there is something for all tastes (brioche, salmon, pain au chocolat, fruit, eggs, etc.). This stay was perfect from A to Z, a big thank you to all the caring teams. To do and redo without moderation!
