Beyond the location and the breakfast buffet, the room was georgeous with view of Darcy park and plaza as well as the foothills in the distance. Staff were most helpful. Car, which they valet park, was always available at requested time. Location, just across the tram tracks and where both trams intersect was perfect. That plus the most pedestrian friendly city center made everything accessible. We only used the car for sorties out of city. Of 4 different hotels in our 16 day trip, the breakfast buffet was the best by far. Range of options. Service. Etc. And in actual fact, the room was the least expensive of the four

Reaching the hotel is not easy because Dijon has banned traffic from the city centre. Do NOT drive to the car park all by yourself as I foolishly did but leave the car in front of the hotel (the attendant will park it and return it so you don't have to lug your luggage out of the car park). Things did not begin well because the afternoon lady receptionist is no better than a cashier at a supermarket--she complained because she was all alone at the reception, lied brazenly to my wife when she told her we had been upgraded (we were not--we booked a luxury room and got one--we are Accor Diamond and she had not bothered to check) and lied again when she said the hotel was full up. (She probably smiles when she cuts her fingers as the French say). This type of welcome is NOT acceptable in a ***** hotel. Our room (314) was comfortable and spotless--kettle, espresso machine, slippers, quality toiletries. The view on the traffic of the place Darcy was nothing extraordinary (we might have been given a view over the garden). The bed was OK (not a MyBed). Bath and shower, separate toilets, walk-in closet. We were woken up twice at 6 a.m. and a bit later by doors banging so the hotel is not so quiet. We didn't get a welcome message from the manager as we always, always do--another bad point. The redeeming feature was the lovely bar and particularly the head barman, Julien, with whom we discussed our adventure at the reception. He really made up for his colleague and IF we go back it will be because of him--he really deserves *****. Because we were so upset by our welcome we cancelled our dinner reservation at the hotel restaurant and went to Le Central instead (a very, very, very good choice indeed, see my review). Breakfast was good and plentiful--the staff were very nice (a special mention for the very sweet, very helpful young man who cooked our eggs and bacon). The breakfast rooms overlook a beautiful patio/garden but it was too cold to eat outside. The parking attendant who brought the car back was very helpful and polite, he also offered to help with our luggage. Use a GPS to find your way out of Dijon--the maze of streets is a horror. To sum up something MUST be done about the reception--no ***** hotel offers this kind of welcome. We should have asked to see the day manager--do, if you face the same receptionist.

Dear FrederickWentworth, Following your recent stay at the Grand Hôtel La Cloche Dijon - MGallery Hôtel Collection, I would like to thank you for taking the time to give us a feedback. I am extremely sensitive to the various inconsistencies you encountered during your stay. It is essential that every guest has a great stay and I would like to offer my sincere apologies if you have not been able to provide you with this experience. Rest assured that I have already gone through every point you mentioned and that corrective action will be taken with the relevant departments. We offer you our sincerest apologies for the quality of service you received upon your arrival and which does not correspond to the quality of service we wish to deliver to our guests. We were fully booked on the higher category of your reservation and unfortunately we could not offer you this upgrade. We are happy when our occupancy allows us to upgrade our most loyal customers. We hope to be able to share it with you during your next stay with us. Regarding the view from your accommodation, all our rooms in the Deluxe category have one that overlooks Place Darcy and therefore unfortunately no room in this category with a view of our gardens. We sincerely apologize for the noise of the doors which disturbed the peace in your room. For the word of welcome present on your arrival, due to the pandemic and the sanitary measures to be implemented, we can no longer provide paper in the room for our guests and therefore unfortunately send a word of welcome in the room of our guests . We are sincerely sorry. We thank you very much for your compliments on the work and hospitality of our head barman Julien, and our breakfast team. It is essential that every guest has a great stay and I would like to once again offer my sincere apologies if you have not been able to provide you with this experience. I hope to have the chance to welcome you back to the Grand Hotel La Cloche Dijon, in order to prove to you that this unfortunate experience in no way reflects the service that we strive to offer every day to our dear customers. Regards, David Vincent Deputy director

Really enjoyed our night in Dijon. Great location on the edge of the old city, valet parking to make it easy and a grand building. Very stylish shaded garden at the back for drinks and breakfast. Spacious room (get a square view) and a very comfortable night. Excellent dinner and friendly staff. Well worth a return visit

I would give this 4 stars, but if I compare with other McGallery hotels and the prices I pay for staying overnight, then this is very expensive one. As this doesn’t give more value than comparable hotels. So I rate it 3 and a half. Location, close to the city centre, excellent. Parking nearby the hotel. Reception very friendly and helpful. Bar, bit odd design, comfortable seating, again also here, ridiculous prices compared to bars nearby. Breakfast, enough choices and ok quality. Good arrangements Rooms, hygiene ok, separate toilet, good shower/bath. Nice , romantic design of the rooms. Bed comfort excellent. Enough closet space. Biggest Minus : elevators, long waiting times for the elevators on numerous occasions.

From the reception to checkout, this hotel was the perfect choice for our first post COVID-19 confinement trip. We wanted to go visit the Bourgogne area because my wife is studying wine, so we decided to make Dijon our base. Since it was also a late anniversary trip, we decided to splurge and stay at this hotel — the only 5-star in town. The location was perfect, and we were only steps away from wonderful restaurants, public transport and attractions. The room was nicely appointed (we appreciated the Nespresso pod coffee machine) and cleaned every day. Housekeeping staff were never intrusive. The reception staff catered to our every need, whether it was maps of the city, recommendations for food or making restaurant reservations. The wait staff in the restaurant during the amazing buffet breakfasts were also efficient and friendly. Thank you for making our first trip to Dijon memorable. We are already planning to return!
