I had done extensive research and chosen another hotel ahead of Hotel des Carmes. However, the nights in July were unbearably hot. Unable to sleep in the sweltering heat, at about midnight, I recalled Hotel des Carmes was a few blocks away. On arrival there, I discovered that cool AC was available (and at a lower rate mind you) so...

We love the Left Bank, but want a reasonably priced place. We took a chance and everything was great. The room size was better than many other Paris hotels, the location was superb, the staff were very pleasant, spoke English and were very helpful about the area etc. The building is an original Parisian 14th - 15th century , but...

Last visit was in 2008 and we had an excellent experience again. Incredibly central location, easy to get to all tourism destinations, as well as La Defense for a business meeting. Bathroom a little dated, rooms small (but average for Paris), and all very clean. Great pubs and restaurants nearby, including (amazingly in Paris) terrific vegetarian food. Check out the...

First trip to Paris, hotel was recommended by a friend. Located in the Latin Quarter right down the street from the Pantheon, near Cluny Museum and the Luxembourg Gardens. Walking distance to the T, RER (to airport) and a section with a lot of restaurants, cafes, crepe stands, and nightlife. Very fun. Staff spoke excellent English, was very helpful and...

Clean, quite spacious for a 2* French hotel, one has everything one needs for a week stay with the declared purpose of spending the whole day wandering through the city. We did not take breakfast - it's a 6 EUR croissant, baguette and coffee at a table under the stairs. We preferred Delices de Fournil, a great place to have...

We required a hotel near Notre Dame at short notice. The location was perfect for our requirement and was good for lots of other places as well. Plenty of good restaurants and cafés near by. Very friendly and helpful staff who all spoke very good English. It was clean, comfortable and quiet and good value for money. We would stay...

In the Latin Quarter, five minutes walk from the Seine and Notre Dame in one direction and the Pantheon and Sorbonne in the other, you couldn't be more central. This is a little gem of a hotel. Clean, quiet, friendly staff, comfy beds, hot showers and very good value. This was our second visit as a family (of grown ups)...

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.

“Rooms at the front are quieter apparently, we've stayed twice and slept in rooms at the front, but have been advised by friends that this is quieter than at the back. We found our room on both visits very quiet.”

“Ask for something on the third floor or higher to make sure it is very quiet--we stayed on the 3rd floor and had no problems with noise at all.”
