I have 3 musts: Cleanliness, private bathroom, service. Cleanliness: Spotless. Private bathroom: Yes, perfectly clean. Service: Nice lady in the reception desk, doesn't speak english. The guy in the night shift speaks a little but, but is always grumpy. If you're lucky, you get the nice young guy in the afternoon, who does speak english. Pros: - Very well located,...

Stayed here this week with my 5 y.o. son. Was first visit to Paris and area seems to be reasonably good, with Republique Metro station's close proximity meaning you can get anywhere with no real fuss. Plenty of cafes etc around, and laundromat round the corner. As with all buildings in area, the hotel is in an old classic Parisan...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel de L'avenue. The room was a good size (not huge, but nothing is in Paris), the facilities were just fine - the location was great as well. Very close to the metro stop and in a good part of town. The staff spoke great English. Beautiful exterior.

Rating considers that this is a 2 star hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. It was small but not as small as a Hotel Ibis we stayed one night at the last time in Paris. We had no problem with room noise that other reviewers commented on (were we making the noise?) - and street noise was non-existent with the...

I hope it's ok to post a review before we stay at this hotel because their customer service is THE BEST! I booked our reservation several months ago and I wanted to reconfirm everything before we leave in a few weeks. After sending a couple of emails over two weeks and hearing nothing back, I decided to fill out the...

This was my second stay at the Grand. My first stay was back in December 2007. I chose the Grand the first time around based heavily on TripAdvisor reviews, needless to say that I was not disappointed with my decision, hence my return in April 2009, This time I was accompanied by four friends, we booked one twin room and...

It is a small but cozy hotel in the centre of Paris (near the Republic square). The location is well connected with other parts of Paris! It seemed to me that it had recently been redecorated since the rooms were all filled with new furniture. They may be small, but very comfortable! The baths were also very clean! There was...

The hotel was easy to get to from the metro station. The room was clean and had everything we could need -- obviously not five stars but who stays in the room all day? The room overlooked the city with beautiful windows. Staff were very accommodating, especially the woman who runs the hotel. She was friendly and helpful at a...

I have stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights in March 2009. Booked a twin room through their website (just send them an email and they will respond very quickly). Somehow my reservation wasn't in their system when I checked in, but the guy at the front desk took care of the problem and we ended up in...

Neighbourhood Profile
Bastille / Oberkampf
Bastille and Oberkampf are lively parts of town made for entertainment. During the day rows of unassuming bars welcome customers for a bite or a drink, but it’s at night this area really comes to life. Students and young professionals fill the busy bars around Bastille and Oberkampf. At Place de la Bastille, crowds flock to the Opéra Bastille in the evening and groups wait for coveted tickets during the day. Towards Republique, skateboarders practice their tricks while others chill out at the square. If you’re looking for late-night revelry, this is your neighbourhood.
