We stayed at the Peniche Barnum for three nights. We were planning to stay longer but had had so many frustrations we left early, paying for the privilege.
Neither host, Phillipe or Tatiana, speak much English. My husband speaks some French, usually enough to get by. But he seemed to have trouble communicating.
We were welcomed hospitably with tea. Then we were shown to our rooms where there was a list of rules lying on the bed: shoes are forbidden in the barge, "it is strictly forbidden to eat on board" (except their breakfast which is NOT included in the price you are quoted but is 11 euros extra per person per day), "All pictures of the inside of the boat must be submitted to the agreement of the owner. No publication media(internet etc..)will be prosecuted provided for in the Civil Code"(sic). The word "forbidden" was used a lot.
Here we were in the Foodie Capital of the world and we couldn't buy any food at a boulangerie or epicerie...

First time on a boat to sleep downtown and this shall remain a stunning experience for many a reason: the boat is incredibly silent altough located right in the heart of the city, everything is clean and tidy and even the smallest detail calls for luxury. The smiling welcome is a bonus and last but not least, a gargantuan organic breakfast is available to sate the hungriest.
A bargain, moneywise !
