Impressive building with many centuries (!) of tradition. My room in the back part of the hotel was ok, with very standard style. Breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly. Wi-Fi was not very strong. Parking at a city parking nearby. Location is excellent - right in the old town, next to a path to the Schlossberg.

It is such a shame when management have taken their eye of the ball and failed on simple technology. The days when you must stand by an upstairs window to pick up a signal are a decade old; only 50% of 'available' channels were connected. With a fantastic location and friendly young staff, management are missing an opportunity which will...

We arrived in Freiburg at 21:00 as planned and agreed with a different hotel. Through no fault of theirs that hotel had concluded we were no-shows and had left for the night - we could neither get in nor check-in. I walked around the corner to Zum Roten Bären where they had room but more importantly took an interest in...

Notable for its interesting red-hued facade and golden metallic bear over the entrance, this hotel in Freiburg is the oldest in Germany. If you ask to go downstairs in the cellar, you can see the remains of the old street which is way below the current level. Fascinating piece of history here.

We spent 3 nights in Freiburg, and were very pleased with our stay at the Hotel zum Roten Baeren. It is right where you want to be, in the Old City, making everything within walking distance. The breakfasts were sumptuous, and the entire staff very friendly and helpful. WiFi was so-so, and you have to park at a nearby public...

Tremendous staff who despite our late arrival took great care to keep the restaurant open for us, sort parking, and set up beds for children in our room. The hotel is right in the middle of the gorgeous old town, and as such there is noise: our junior suite faced onto the street with trams and busy life outside, and...

This hotel gave me mixed feeling. On à positive note, the place is full of charm and very well located in the old town of Freiburg. The staff was very friendly and prices were OK. The hotel is clean as well. However on the flip side, the room really needs a renovation. All the furniture were in rather ancient. The...

The Red Bear is the oldest inn in Germany, so the architecture (narrow hallways, small rooms) is old-fashioned but that just adds to its charm. The food and wine options are very high-quality, and the restaurant, facilities and rooms are clean and well cared for. Staff is friendly, and the hotel is situated in a fairly quiet pedestrian area within...

We stayed at the Roten Bären for one night to visit Freiburg and the Christmas markets and were warmly welcomed on our arrival at the hotel. The staff went out of their way to help us find somewhere to park in the city centre as it was a busy weekend and all the car parks were full. Our room was...
