This is a great hotel. With a nice view on the centre church/cathedral we had a wonderful night rest. Breakfast was outstanding and all COVID19 measures were taken. This will certainly become my favourite place to stay when coming from Italy on my way to Holland.

The hotel is centrally located. Rooms are modern and functional. We had a view to the Münster which was very nice. Reception was very friendly and we immediatlely felt welcome. This hotel is the best choice if you want to stay a night or two in this beautiful city and you want to pamper yourself with a luxury hotel which is not costing you an arm and a leg

The staff was amazing! We arrived early, and the hotel allowed us to check into our room early. The suite we had was amazing. The location was incredible. Our room overlooked the daily market, which we enjoyed observing and visiting. The view out our window was of the beautiful cathedral. We were greeted with welcome drinks. The daily breakfasts were included and were delicious. We stayed for 4 days. We liked it so much that when our plans changed at the end of our 14 day vacation, we decided to stay at this lovely hotel again for another 3 days. We were not disappointed the second time either.

Stayed at the Hotel Rappen for a night. The location is excellent, being just across the cathedral. Beds were ok, the shower was tiny even by European standards. Breakfast was very good. Easy 4 stars.

The Rappen is a combined small hotel and restaurant. The rooms were no-nonsense and comfortable. The restaurant is on the ground floor and the guest rooms above. Typical of such European hotels is that you do not have large reception areas and more than a basic service staff. But that was fine for us as the location and price and good room comfort made up for it. The food at the restaurant was also surprisingly good. Mix of regional dishes plus pizza which was surprisingly good. Also, the there is a side door so that you can access your room without going through the restaurant. Nice touch and essential if you plan to stay out late. The view from the hotel is of the Muenster cathedral but when we were there July 2018 our side of the cathedral had an unbelievable amount of scaffolding so you'll need to look past the ugly covers to appreciate the beauty. During the morning however, you get a view of the bustling daily market which is a treat to view. Freiburg is not too crazy for parties so evening noise was not excessive. Note that the hotel does not have air-conditioning.
