We enjoyed the Kastanienhof, located in East Berlin. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and well appointed. The breakfast was very good. We suggest requesting a room toward the back as there is a tram stop right out front. The tram, though, makes travel into Berlin to see the sights very easy; the hotel will sell you passes. There... This is a small, family owned hotel in the former east Berlin, now a very trendy part of town. The area is a great place to experience cosmopolitan Berlin and to people-watch. A wide variety of restaurants are within easy walking distance. The hotel is right on a tram line, which is very convenient. However, rooms facing the street can... More

The hotel is clean and kept up. Very comfortable. The location is nice. There's a tram stop almost in front of the hotel and you're very close to the center of town. I give it a four ratings instead of five because of their wifi wasn't working. I could connect, but it wouldn't give me access to the internet. I... More

A friendly, well-run hotel with a really great location for experiencing a lively street in Prenzlauer Berg. Very reasonably priced (in May, anyway, it was a steal). Some may be disturbed by the passing trams outside if the windows are open, but we got used to it quickly and it was not a problem. Try the Macke Prinz bar only... More

Inexpensive, comfortable, friendly staff, and the location on the edge of Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg is unbeatable (despite the rampant yuppification of the area). Trams right outside the door, U bahn reasonably close, with many good food options nearby

I was one of 37 Rotarians from Bournemouth on a three night break in Berlin. The hotel was clean, well located and reasonably priced with very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was included in our tariff and was excellent with an ample variety of offerings. The small bar was cosy, reasonably priced and had live (good) music some evenings. All... More

A small traditional hotel in an excellent location for sight seeing. Tram stops outside the hotel and the Ubahn is a 10 min walk. Our room was a good size and spotlessly clean. Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
