The hostel staff are not warm when they greet you on arrival. The internet is total blackmail - you need to check in on facebook just to use it and there is no way around this. The powerpoints are only available on the bottom bunks (so if you're on a top bunk good luck!). There are no privacy curtains (and...

Poorly planned hostel with dull atmosphere, Bad wifi (even though you're "connected", never worked). Property is in a strip-mall-looking business space. Unsocial feel to whole building; not easy to connect with travelers in other rooms. Squeaky beds in rooms with scruffy gray carpeting. Showers are TOO hot and shoot out without a proper shower head, water gets all over the...

Booked this hostel for a stag do. It was only needed for somewhere to lay our heads in the early morning and shower, but it was very poor. The showers are all rubbish with a timer set for about 30 seconds, cold water and 3 streams of water. The beds are not particularly comfortable and the staff were rude. I...

Arrived at Berlin. I would advise having a look at the metro system before going as it took us an unnecessary amount of time when the journey was just under an hour via trains. Something I was warned of about Berlin was that if you're caught on a train without a ticket you get charged 60euros. However, I didn't see...

The Hostel is located very close to Checkpoint Charlie and U6 station Kochstrasse, just 5 minutes on foot, so you are in a walking distance from a lot of attractions plus if you need transport it is readily available. There is Lidl supermarket just behind the hostel, 2 minutes or so on foot which is pretty convenient. However, there are...

This hostel is in an excellent location, right by Checkpoint Charlie. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was large and clean - although we couldn't close our window for some reason, which was a bit of a worry re security. Also, the wifi was absolutely awful and disconnected pretty much all the time. Apart from this, I...

I had a very bad experience with this hostel. First of all you guys need to know, that the most of guests there are students (14-16 years),which means noise, squeals and dirt. Their group leaders just don't care. All showers and toilets always occupied by those kids. Dirt is the main word I can say about this hostel. The shower...

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
