The first impression great rooms, but as time goes on not very well thought out from a function point of view. The Shower has a tap sticking into it at knee level ( the tap for the bath) and every time you turn you hit and bruse your legs. The TV great to get a plamsa tv but I asume...

...the location is great. S and U bahn very close by and a tram stop right outside. Within close walking distance to many sights, great shopping and even better dining. The housekeeping staff is very thorough- she scrubbed the bathroom daily. The shower was heavenly. Make sure you request a front facing room. We did not have one. It wasn't...

Stayed at the Arcotel on Thu, Fri night. Couldn't book on Expedia for Sat night because it was booked out. Instead I booked at another "design" hotel in West Berlin. I did however book Sun night at the Arcotel again before departing on Monday. Price - Exceptional value when you compare it to other hotels in Berlin. While it does...

The velvet is an excelent choice if you want to stay in the middel of the trendiest area of Berlin. The rooms are modern, confortable and full of details (i.e. a DVD player in your room) The service is excelent; nice and willing to help. We didn´t have breakfast as the area is full of cafes where you can better...

The hotel is in a good location,1 block from the train station, very clean, quiet,AC worked fine. not bad for the price we paid on Expedia ($84) but the queen bed we stayed in wasn't comfortable for the 2 of us,mattress was very springy, you might be better off with 2 twin beds.

We stayed at the Arcotel Velvet for a long weekend at the end of July 2005. The hotel is very informal, it has a great bar (very chilled out), the rooms are very good (but ask for a street facing room, ours just overlooked a back courtyard). The integral bathroom works really well, there is a separate wc and the...

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
