This place was fine. Not great in any particular respect, but not bad in any respect either. It's basically exactly what we wanted - a quiet, comfortable place to crash at the end of each night in Berlin. You don't go to Berlin to hang out in the hotel room, so it really doesn't need to be awesome. The nicest...

Great location, quiet room, really nice breakfast room. Friendly staff. Room was small and no closets or drawers for clothes. Bathroom was large enough. Overall, very clean and beautiful. Nice location close to the canal.

I stayed here for a week in March. I would definitely stay again. I found my room to be very clean and warm with a nice bathroom. Also a window that opens, which is a big plus for me. The only negative is that the room is quite small. Staff are helpful and discreet. The front desk will gladly organise...

A Hotel with probably the kindest staff ever! The rooms are neat, spacious and clean. Nothing is lacking. Breakfast was also great. We had a small problem with the Internet in the room the first night but no big deal. What I liked is that the hotel is somewhat smaller than other hotels I stayed in before. I think that...

I spent several nights at the Hotel Johann and it was a perfect stay. The room was immaculate. My room was quite large and very comfortable. The hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood several blocks from the U-Bahn so it was easy to get around. They offer a breakfast buffet for a nominal fee. I would highly recommend this...

We felt like the "bar" was our own living room. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the reception was wonderful. No complaints, it was great. There was good bus service nearby, as well as a great restaurant, where we had wonderful roast goose with all the trimmings.

I have been staying at least ten times in Hotel Johann, all together 25 nights or so. I am traveling a lot, but Hotel Johann is a kind of reference to me. Nothing spectacular in Johann, but all details are perfect. The desk is very welcoming, the lobby small and cosy. The rooms are the way I want them to...

I picked this hotel to stay at because it is very near the campus where my friend's son stayed for junior semester abroad (CIEE Global Institute). There were 4 of us 50-year old women staying in the hotel and the friend's son took us to his favorite spots. The rooms were affordable, modern and clean. My bathroom had a heated...

We had a lovely stay in this hotel. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were in a big group too and they managed to make some room changes to accommodate all of us. The hotel is in a great location with just a 10min walk to the overground train and surrounding bars and restaurants. We would all...

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
