We were treated like family right from the start. The driver helped with a luggage issue and was courteous and friendly. Once at the hotel we were greeted warmly and taken straight to our suite. This was a welcome relief as we arrived in the evening. We were upgraded to a splendid room with nice rooftop like views of The...

Despite the name, this hotel is all Berlin and was a great base of operation for our family on our first visit. The staff could not have been more accommodating and the location is unbeatable. Walking distance to pretty much everything. We can't wait to return.

Such a great hotel, lovely service, wonderful breakfast, really accommodating, highly recommended. The spa is wonderful and the rooms are big and stunning. Great location in the Gendarmenmarkt. We went to Augustiner restaurant straight after landing which was a great, easy German choice near the hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

Some would say it is overpriced, rooms are small, to oriented to design. I do not agree. It is a great hotel, in a great location. Top service, nice rooms, delicious breakfast. If you can stay there do not hesitate, it is better than the other luxury hotels in Berlin. Smaller, nicer, more cosy.

While we didn't stay at the Hotel de Rome (we were late in booking and couldn't get the rooms we needed) we did have dinner there twice at their spectacular Italian restaurant La Blanca. In a city where German/Austrian foods abound, La Blanca is a lovely respite with lighter tastes. The service is excellent and we can't say enough about...

From the minute I stepped out of the taxi, until the minute I reluctantly left for the airport, Hotel de Rome made my week in Berlin magical and special. Rooms are generously sized, staff is helpful and knowledgable, meal services superb.

Location is optimal. Best neighborhood, close to lots of things, great walks. Rooms are beautifully designed, felt new, well furnished. VERY comfortable. All staff: concierges, front desk doormen, breakfast staff are great. Breakfast is a lovely a la carte/buffet with Prosecco included. Super quality. Hotels get no better than this. Perfect 2 week stay.

I was impressed with everything except the laundry using plastic as if we were royals of the 19th century. That is over the top. I serve the same quests as you and they return and are happy because we make them feel special personally not with false luxury.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel de Rome is located on Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden. It is a conversion of an existing building constructed in 1889 by architect Ludwig Heim (appointed master builder of the government), which housed the head office of Dresdner Bank until 1945. This is one of the few luxury hotels in Berlin located in an original building making use of its full architectural splendour and thereby offering guests an authentic Berlin experience. The ornate and classical design of the original building has been given a contemporary twist by designer Tommaso Ziffer, who also designed the Hotel de Russie in Rome. Tommaso Ziffer has been assisted by architects Aukett + Heese with Olga Polizzi and her design team at Rocco Forte Hotels. ... more   less
