The hotel was hard to find at night as the street is very dark and there are few lights. (Reception closes at 1800) A lot of stairs so be prepared to climb. Room was clean and basic no extras like no shampoo or shower gel. The 1st night the heating didn't work but the strange guy on reception didn't believe...

I like this place becouse i felt like in Airbnb - no reception desk and private entrance made me feel very comfortable. Hotel is in a quiet location, 5 min away from U-bahn station. Our room was spacious with big bed, additional sofa and private bathroom.

We were there on may 2014. Hotel has a quiet locat near u-bahn. Surrounding is very nice and there is a lot of green and restaurants. Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was so tasty and wealthy. Berlin is the most beautiful city where I was and this hotel is good base for a trips.

Rather expensive stay (booked with 2 weeks notice) but I guess you pay for the central location. The rooms could definitely do with some clean up and general maintenance. Things like replacing the broken light bulb, cleaning out empty beer bottles, supposedly left by former guests, from the drawers or fixing the wonky shower head, shouldn't be too much to...

Me and my boyfriend stayed in City Hotel Gotland for the second time in the beginning of June. And I really enjoyed it there. I like the Kreuzberg area and the building itself. Rooms are big and clean. Staff is very helpful. So I would definitely recommend it!

I had to travel to Berlin in an emergency when my daughter who is studying German was taken seriously ill and admitted to the local hospital. The staff could not have been more helpful, flexible or kind to me. Email and telephone contact was excellent prior to arrival. Decent breakfast and a large clean room, with a good shower and...

This was one of my horrible hotels experience ever, the worst customer service on earth. I've been trying to call them for many times when they recognise me they just hang up without saying a word. It looks like they do not speak neither English nor another language. If you are planning to arrive after 18h, that's a complete different...

I did not even sleep there. I just asked via e-mail (in German) if it's true that the Internet connection did not work and all I got was a copy & paste answer. When I asked for more details the owner just ignored me. As a result, I decided to cancel the reservation (luckly without paying a cent) and searched...

We have spent just one night with my girlfriend during visiting Bread and Butter fair trade. Was easy to find it out, but it is not a hotel - seems more like very cheap guest house. The room where we overnighted was pretty large but a bit fusty - I don´t remember how much we have paid but it was...

Is this really a hotel or is it the front for some kind of money laundering? Almost non-existent wi-if connection; thin walls that didn't insulate us from the noise from the hallway and other rooms; no fridge; located on a busy arterial road and needed to catch a train a couple of stops in order to do anything remotely interesting....

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
