Me and my cousin came to Bucharest for the weekend, and Hostel X was quite a nice last second solution. We arrived late as 00:30 and there were no complications. Beds comfortable and tidy, wished there where more 'steckdose' wall connections in the room. We were staying with another 10 people on the same room, everybody well behaved nobody arrived...

I've stayed in many hostels over the past few years and wasn't looking for anything fancy when staying at this one for a weekend away with friends. There is still a basic level of cleanliness and staff friendliness you expect with a cheap hostel - but this hostel was filthy and the staff, although not particularly rude, were not interested...

---Stay away!---Don't go there!--- At the beginning I have to admit that the staff I met (a guy and a girl, both working at the reception) were extremely friendly and helpful which stays in huge contrast to everything else you will experience in this place. I booked a single room for one night as I needed to stay in this...

Why don't you just read everyone else reviews? The kitchen was filthy and filled with fruit flies, the rooms smelt like a giant filthy shoe and there was a case of someone coming in and attempting to walk out with a laptop. The security is outdated (no scan cards or locks on the dormitory doors) and the lockers in the...

The staff members here were so much help at every point and call. The huge let down was with the facilities and the cleanliness. All four of us found huge stains, and one in particular with toe nails all across our bed. It was quite disgusting and felt quite insecure with our belongings.

The building is old and the facilities are dirty. There where stains in the bed sheets and it was really hot. This hostel needs some renovation. A lot of renovation. They have to renovate the s*** out of it. It's a cheap hostel, but the value for money is still bad. The staff was really friendly and helpful though.

We went there in 2014. Signs warning about thieves and not taking responsibility for things stolen are everywhere in the hostel. Went outside with friends, and I forgot to take my jacket inside. I left it just outside the door, in front of the reception desk. Went back outside to look for it, 5-10 minutes later and it was gone....

Honestly, considering the internet reviews, I was expecting a hellhole. But to be honest it exceeded my expectations: it is very cheap and you get quite a good run for your money. The staff is very friendly and helpful if need be. The amenities were p to my expectations, sure I would have loved a bigger kitchen and a lounge...

I stayed here a few years ago, but this place has really gone downhill. It stinks, the wifi is unavailable, the walls are paper thin, beds are rickety and creaky. Reception is not pleasant, playing bizarre techno. What an absolute hovel; would not recommend.

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.

“They are making female dorms, I'd advise you to go because the other tenants are nice but some people might be uncomfortable”

“We stayed as a couple and got a dorm room. I'm not sure if that was the only mixed dorm, but it meant we got the entire dorm room to ourselves, which was very pleasant. Might be a good idea for couples on a budget who don't want to splash out on a private room.”
