Having booked a double room with a private bathroom we were disappointed to get two single beds pushed together to make a double, and a bathroom that was not actually so private. It was not connected to our room, meaning anyone could access it and it also had no lock on the inside. The authenticity of the supposed 1970s eastern...

I stayed here with a friend last year. We're both in our 20s and, as with most hostels, it's quite a young crowd at Ostel, and it can be a bit noisy when people traipse in late at night. I really enjoyed the GDR-style decor. This place was definitely above average for a budget trip- we had a private room...

Was a bit disappointed my room was a bit basic but apart from that it was ok. Prices were reasonable, the location is near a station so easy access. Staff are ok, the place is clean despite it looking a bit run down. My only draw back is the mattress in my bed was very thin and sleep quality was...

Great interior, added to the historic feel of Berlin. We had a comfortable, large room- Staff were efficient and helpful. Location is ok, not the most picturesque area- Near Ostabanhof station which is 1 or 2 stops away from Alexandraplatz, so centrally located but just out - We had to take a taxi back from Alexendraplatz to the hostel one...

the hotel has an interesting purpose:to bring you back to the GDR. Well, it does the job. However, the staff could be kinda friendlier but nothing really serious happened during my stay. The restaurant has GDR stylish food the a mon avis, a little overpriced. The location is not very good but if you take the subway at ost bahnhoff (subway station)...

I stayed in a dorm room and it was possibly the least appealing place I had ever stayed. Shabby, mattresses so thin you may as well not have bothered, unfriendly staff (what's new in Berlin!). I had a genuine interest in the GDR theme but saw nothing of interest. Would never stay again.

Well the hostel lived up to all the expectations we had of it. And for hostel quality, this is rather good quality. We easily booked a couple of rooms in advance by phone and received an email booking confirmation. Good start. The hostel is then nicely placed near Ostbahnhof, so arriving there was easy (as was departing, since our train...

This is such a nice hotel, all decorated with "eastern German" style. The crew is nice, the colors are pretty.

well where do we start. we rented the GDR- Apartment. and my gosh, it was like living in pre-berlin wall downfall times. the design, the bed, electronics up to the wallpaper is as if you'd stepped into another time like time travelling. i felt that after visiting the GDR museum, it was as if we were living in that time...

All round great experience. The rooms are small but cute with very comfortable beds. The staff at the front desk were helpful and friendly. The location is great at only a skip away from Ostanbof and the train station is full of places to eat, change money, have a coffee. The first time I stayed I had a room on...

Staying in Friedrichshain

Neighbourhood Profile
Friedrichshain
When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may find a bar with international crowds, electronic music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other, an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit buildings and live alternative music. No matter your taste, the best way to end a night out in Friedrichshain is sitting by the Spree River at the East side gallery, the longest and best preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Oberbaum Bridge.
