We stayed here for five nights in October 2014 and found the hotel to just suit our needs for location, friendlyness and authenticity. Located just under Prenzlauer Berg within easy walking distance to great neighbourhood exploring. Spacious and clean rooms (we had a family room easily accommodating a couple and a 16 year-old) and friendly staff. Rental of bicyles just...

We did a trip round Europe on a motorbike and chose to stay at the Alex Hotel due to it having private parking (we didn't need it in the end as they don't mind you parking bikes on the pavement outside). Is a bit of a walk to Alexanderplatz but that didn't bother us as we were having a nice...

Very good location- there is a tram from Alexanderplatz (just 3 stops) that brings you to the hotel door - very convenient if carrying luggage. Rooms are basic, but very clean and are cleaned daily. The breakfast is served in the lobby - a decent choice of everything. The tea and express coffee free for the whole day (till 10.pm)....

I stayed in the hotel during IFA exhibition time as everything else was booked. There is no subway or sbahn in walking distance. But there is a tram right in front of the hotel which takes you to alexanderplatz in 5 min. The rooms are clean but very basic. The breakfast room is too small and the lobby at the...

The room we had for several nights was very small, but was clean and the beds were comfortable. Breakfasts were good and had sufficient variety. The best thing about the hotel was its location within 50 feet of a tram stop. The tram system provides connections to the subway system and all trains so you have access to the entire...

I was a guest there during IFA because i made a late booking and it was one of the cheaper options available. The shower was just terrible and the noise level was in the hotel was high from this port behind it. The cleaning staff should knock on my door before enter, and i got stuck with one dirty towel...

I came first time to Berlin and I did search pretty many hotels. I didn't need anything classy 5 star luxury hotel just a cosy, comfortable and clean hotel. Then I found The Alex Hotel. Even it have only 2 stars, it is so much better what you can expect. Alex is so comfortable and cosy, with so helpful staff...

A basic 2 star hotel but don't be put off booking the Alex. The rooms were spotlessly clean, bed was soft and comfortable and the buffet breakfast great for setting me up for a day exploring this fabulous city. The M4 tram runs from outside the front door and is 3 stops to Alexanderplatz. There was free WiFi and free...

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighbourhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighbourhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
