The hotel is perfect for a city stay or a Christmas market visit. The closest market is a matter of a few minutes walk away. It is also close to attractions like the Chocolate Museum (15 mins) and shopping.
The hotel is also spotless and modern, and the breakfast choice is excellent.
An external company runs the gym, so it only allows those aged 16+, but the pool is freezing, as is the jacuzzi!!
The room was large and modern with a comfortable bed, but during our first night, it was like the arctic and the second night like the Bahamas! After the first night, we informed them that the room had been freezing, and they sent up a heater; no investigation was made into why it was so cold.
The second night we arrived back after dinner, the room was like a sauna! The air con was set to 18, but it wasn’t working. I woke up as it was so hot that it wasn’t possible to sleep. I called the receptionist, and he came up to check the air con settings and said it was set as it should be, but the air con still wasn’t working. He offered a fan and opened a window or to change rooms. We decided not to change room at 2.15 am since we were leaving the next day and it would be too much of an inconvenience to pack everything up and move it during the night. My sister stayed in another room and did not experience this problem. Her room temperature was as it should be. This was an isolated experience but should have been investigated by the hotel instead of using the sticking plaster approach as sleeping comfort is the highest priority when staying in a hotel.
old food in mini bar. New years eve bar closed to guests ,wow unless you pay 59 euro
You get 2 glasses of bubbly and finger food greedy hotel.
Breakfast went from great new years day until 2 p.m.
The next day terrible no food in bain marie waited 40 minutes, one chef 30 minute wait for omlette tried to complain no manager ,told to complain when leaving.
fresh o j machine missing old processed juice only.
so angry with this expensive hotel complete rip off.
go somewhere else and enjoy your holiday.
Staff simply dont care about customers.
The hotel location is great for serving the town and the Xmas markets but the hotel staff were the worst I have ever experienced.
1.The beds were never made for the three nights we stayed even after informing the staff after the first day , we were informed that a button on the door told the cleaning staff not to disturb apparently this had been pressed ? Not informed so after day one we told reception staff we would like our rooms cleaned for the remaining two nights , this never happened the floor was never Hoover and the beds never made we have photos of this . Following a discussion with reception staff they also confirmed that they would photograph and raise a complaint on my behalf again reception staff were not very accommodating or helpful.
Also there are no toiletries in the room this needs to be asked for at reception along with the mini bar (we only found this out by a fellow guest being told from a departing guest)
2.The checking staff were not very helpful or informative as we had experienced at the Dorint an der Messe and this was the reason we have revisited the Dorint chain for 12 years. I understand COVID has brought many problems and rules in to play at hotels but this particular hotel did not help by the lack of courtesy that is shown at their sister hotels .
Their attention to detail went amiss and given that we complained to the duty manager (really a supervisor)
Staff were slow and not welcoming or helpful.
Shower in room didn’t work which we informed them of at checkout but no real apology or compensation was offered.
We paid 28 euros for parking for 24 hours upon checkout at the reception where they validated our ticket. We then couldn’t get out of the car park as the hotel hadn’t validated the ticket! Total debacle when we just wanted to get out of the hottest multi story car park in Europe.
Overall a very disappointing stay. Wouldn’t recommend. Too many hidden costs and service not good.
It was a real shame that the service seriously lets down this hotel, which is superbly located and is a really outstanding facility.
The hotel itself is right at Heumarkt station, a short walk from Neumarkt and the Hauptbahnhof (Cathedral area). Everything, from the shopping area to the Kölnarena (and even nearby airports) is within easy reach. The building itself is spacious and pleasant. Harry’s Bar is a real highlight, a very pleasant place to spend the end of an evening, and there is a new restaurant being constructed too. So I really recommend checking out this hotel as a potential place to stay in Cologne, whether on business or holiday.
However, there was a significant issue with the customer services. The sink in our room was not clearing - there was obviously a blockage in the pipe - meaning the water simply lay there. We reported this early one morning but nothing was done; when we reported it again, we were told it had been referred to “housekeeping” but that the hotel was full and there were no other rooms. The issue is that it wasn’t a matter for “housekeeping” but for a professional plumber; nor should guests simply be left with a sink full of dirty water and no assistance. (We also asked for two extra pillows but received only one.)
That really very poor standard of customer service and customer care was at odds with the quality of the hotel generally, but did really let it down. The hotel must invest in better staff training so that the service matches the promise.
